There are cold syndromes and heat syndromes, deficiency syndromes and excess syndromes, as well as initial onset diseases and chronic diseases. The symptoms and treatments are detailed in *Yizong Jicheng* (Comprehensive Mirror of the Medical Sage), so only a few simple prescriptions are recorded here.

For injuries caused by cold food and indigestible substances: Use four taels of sliced fresh ginger (Shengjiang) and four taels of Perilla leaf (Zisu). Decoct them to make a concentrated decoction and place it in a bath basin. Let the patient sit in the hot liquid while it is still warm. Rub their chest and abdomen with hands, and pour the hot liquid over them. Once the Qi flows smoothly, the stagnation will resolve. Another method: Muddle four taels of fresh ginger and four taels of Perilla leaves separately. Stir-fry them until hot, divide into two cloth bags, and alternate applying them to the chest and abdomen. If they cool down, stir-fry again and apply; this yields miraculous effects.

For food retention and accumulation that fails to digest: Use two taels of Jiuniangqu (Baijiu Qu, i.e., small yeast cakes for brewing liquor), stir-fried, and one tael of fine powder from matured malt (Laomaiya). Grind both together into a fine powder. Take two qian each time, mixed with plain boiled water. This is especially effective for injuries caused by fruits and glutinous rice. Another method for treating food retention due to Spleen deficiency: Use two taels of stir-fried Atractylodis Rhizoma (Baizhu), one tael of stir-baked Immature Bitter Orange (Zhishi), ground into powder, and five qian of Medicated Leaven (Shenqu). Mix with rice paste to form pills. Take three qian each time, washed down with rice drink.

For fullness and bloating due to food stagnation that fails to digest: Take one sheng of glutinous rice, stir-fry until cooked, divide into two cloth bags, and alternate applying them to the umbilical and abdominal areas to assist the Spleen Qi in transformation and transportation, causing immediate resolution.

For meat stagnation that fails to digest: Crush thirty hawthorn seeds (Shanzhazhi), decoct them in concentrated water, and drink the liquid; the stagnation will naturally dissolve.

For accumulation caused by eating dog meat: If untreated, it can be fatal. Crush twenty-four pieces of hawthorn flesh (Shanzhourou); remove the skin and tips from twenty-four apricot kernels (Xingren), crush them, decoct them strongly in water, and drink. After several doses, the accumulation will naturally resolve.

For abdominal distension and failure to digest after eating beef: Boil a handful of dry straw in water to make a concentrated decoction. Drink it while boiling hot; the stagnation will naturally dissipate.

For abdominal distension caused by wheat products: Extract juice from fresh ginger, mix with good wine, and take it hot; the distension will resolve. Extract juice from raw radish, take it warm; this yields miraculous effects. Radish seeds may also be used. Generally, consuming vinegar with wheat products prevents abdominal distension.

For abdominal pain and distension caused by eating water caltrop: Extract fresh juice from ginger, mix with boiling water, and take it orally; the distension resolves immediately.

For abdominal distension and rapid breathing caused by excessive consumption of raw or cold fruits and vegetables: Remove the coarse bark from Qinghuagui (a type of Cinnamomi Cortex), grind into fine powder, mix with rice to form pills the size of mung beans. Take five pills each time, or ten pills for slightly larger individuals, washed down with water. Stop medication once the disease is cured.

In cases where pediatricians misdiagnose children's illnesses and mistakenly use incompatible herbs: If the child experiences irritability, vomiting, or diarrhea, and one wishes to counteract the drug toxicity, decoct one cup of black soybeans (Heidou) and three qian of Licorice root (Gancao) in concentrated water and administer it; this is effective.
