For cases of urinary retention where medication has been ineffective: Use 5 qian (approx. 18.75g) of Phytolaccae Radix (Shanglu), grind into powder, add a small amount of Moschus (Shexiang). Cover the umbilicus with an old linen cloth from summer, place the medicine on the cloth; once the medicinal qi enters the abdomen, urination will resume.
For cases where urination has not occurred for several days, accompanied by generalized edema and swelling of the limbs, unresponsive to various medicines: Use 1 jin (approx. 500g) of Perillae Folium (Suye), decoct into a strong soup, pour into a foot basin, and have the patient sit over the basin to fumigate. Add hot water as it cools. Externally, apply fried salt to warm-moxibustion the umbilicus and swollen areas. After some time, urination will resume, swelling will subside, and recovery will occur. Another prescription: Use 1 jin of Scallion White (Congbai) with roots intact, crush and stir-fry until hot, divide into two portions, wrap each in cloth, and alternately apply hot compresses below the umbilicus; urination will resume. Another prescription: Take 0.5 liang (approx. 18.75g) of edible salt, dissolve in warm water, drink, and after a while, induce vomiting by stimulating the throat with a finger; upon vomiting, urination will resume. This is because the upper orifices are blocked, causing the lower orifice to be closed. Another prescription: Blow a small amount of Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina (Zaojiao) powder into the nose; sneezing will trigger urination.
For infants with white and turbid urine: Use raw Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma (Huai Shanyao) ground into powder, mixed with porridge and consumed several times until cured. If the urine clears but turns white again quickly, this indicates Spleen deficiency with food stagnation. Use Yigong San (Isolated Efficacy Powder), see "Non-Convulsion" section, add Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) and Shan Zha Rou (Hawthorn Flesh).

Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum (Tiannanxing), quantity不拘 (unrestricted), stir-fry with Ginger Juice until hot, grind into fine powder, mix with vinegar, spread on silk fabric, heat gently, and apply to the fontanelle. Continue until the sutures close.
When an infant's fontanelle is sunken like a pit, caused by prolonged illness leading to insufficiency of True Yuan (Original Qi), and dual deficiency of Qi and Blood, it is a dire prognosis: Immediately administer Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Great Tonifying Decoction) with Antlerum Cornu (Lurong), decocted with Ginger and Jujube. Externally, use Dog Skull Bone (Goutou Gu), roast until yellow, grind into powder, mix with Egg White, and apply topically for good effect.
For infantile Jie Lu (Split Skull), or sudden widening of the fontanelle and longitudinal splitting of the skull after illness, indicating insufficient Marrow and severe deficiency: Use Lurong (Antlerum Cornu), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma), and Baiziren (Biota Seed) in equal parts of 5 qian each. Grind into powder, mix with Milk to form cakes, apply to the fontanelle, change once daily, until closure.

Long-term administration yields natural efficacy. Another prescription: Wujia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex) 5 qian, Jiuchao Niuxi (Wine-processed Achyranthes Bidentatae Radix) and Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus) 2.5 qian each.
