To treat the growth of pterygium (pterygium) in the eyes, red blood vessels penetrating the pupil, white membranes obscuring the eyeball, and various corneal opacities (corneal opacity): Use Bai Ding Xiang (White Sparrow Dropping), which is sparrow feces. Those that are inverted are female sparrow droppings and should not be used; select those that stand upright, which are male sparrow droppings. The quantity is unrestricted. Grind into powder and process by water flotation (similar to processing Cinnabar), discard the residue. Wait for the medicine to settle at the bottom, pour off the clear water, and dry in the sun. Each time, take a tiny amount, grind it with breast milk until dissolved, and apply it to the opacity; the opacity will naturally disappear. Sparrow droppings can be found in abundance in temples and on city walls.
For red eyes with swelling and pain: Take a pinch of Piao Xiao (Mirabilite). Place a thick piece of fresh tofu in a bowl, dig a large hole without piercing through the bottom. Put the Piao Xiao into the hole in the tofu. Steam it over rice. Once the salt has melted, remove the tofu and do not use it. Take the juice and wash the eyes several times until it heals spontaneously. It is advisable to first administer Bai Du San (Decoction for Defeating Toxins - see "Accidental Convulsions"), add Chi Shao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) and Mu Zei (Equiseti Herba) each one qian, and Chan Tui (Periostracum Cicadae) seven pieces. Then use the eye-washing medicine. Do not rush to apply eye drops; the same principle applies below.
For Fire Eye and Wind-Heat Eye: Use 5 qian of Sheng Nan Xing (Rhizoma Arisaematis Exsiccatum) and 5 qian of Red Bean Rice. Grind them together into a powder. Take the natural juice of fresh ginger, mix to form a cake, and apply it to both Tai Yang acupoints (Taiyang acupoint).
For severe pain from Fire Eye: Use large red dates, take the flesh of five or six dates, and three or four scallions. Pound them together into a paste, form two small cakes, and apply them while keeping the eyes closed to promote dispersion. Washing several times with the child's own warm urine is effective.
For white spots growing in children's eyes: Take Mulberry Juice, dip a rush pith into it, and apply it to the spot for immediate cure.
The most effective prescription for treating Blepharitis (Lan Xian Feng): Use 3 qian of fresh Tong Lv (Malachite Green). Grind into a fine powder. Mix thickly with raw honey. Apply to the inside wall of a coarse bowl; the mixture should be slightly dry, otherwise it will flow out after a short time. Burn mugwort to produce smoke. Cover the bowl over the smoke source and fumigate until the Tong Lv turns scorched black. Remove, let cool and solidify. Mix evenly with breast milk, steam over rice. Use a small amount each time to apply to the ulcerated eyelid margin; it is miraculous.
To treat entropion/Trichiasis where eyelashes do not turn up: Use Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis) ground into a fine powder. Mix with honey and apply to the eyelids; the eyelashes will naturally turn up. Another method: Use Wu Ming Yi (Hematitum) ground into powder. Roll paper into a taper, light it, blow out the flame, keep eyes closed and fumigate; the eyelashes will naturally turn up.
For persistent red eyes with swelling and pain: Take lean pork, cut a slice the size of a fingernail. Wash the blood off with water. Apply to the eyelid. After a long time, replace with another slice; it will heal.
For sores growing among the eyebrows of children: Use the two scales from the forelimbs of Shan Jian Jia (Pangolin Scales), roast until scorched and golden, then grind into powder. Add a small amount of Qing Fen (Calomel). Mix with refined sesame oil and apply for immediate cure. Another method: Burn garlic cloves to ash, mix with refined sesame oil, and apply; this is also excellent.
