(Five Prescriptions)
For scalds or burns caused by hot liquids or fire, do not apply cold objects, wash with cold water, or use cooling herbal compresses, as this may cause the fire-toxin to penetrate inward, leading to untreatable conditions. For details, refer to the First Aid Chapter.
At the initial stage of scalds or burns: Immediately grind common salt into powder, mix evenly with wine and vinegar, and apply to the affected area. Apply frequently without interruption. Although it may cause temporary pain, it protects the flesh from necrosis. Subsequently, treat with appropriate medications.
If scalds or burns cause delirium or loss of consciousness: Urgently administer a mixture of honey and warm liquid orally. If the condition is severe, boil dozens of pots of good-quality wine, pour them into a bathtub, and immerse the child in the wine. Even in extremely severe cases, death can be avoided. If hands or feet are burned, soak them in one to two sheng (a traditional unit of volume) of sour vinegar. After removing from the vinegar, if pain persists, it will cease after a short while, preventing ulceration, suppuration, and scarring.
If the epidermis has peeled off due to scalds or burns, exposing raw flesh, or if the wound is foul-smelling and rotting with no response to various medicines: Take a basket full of pig bristles, roast them in red-hot charcoal from a broken pot until they dissolve into a black liquid. Remove and let cool. Add a few qian (a traditional unit of weight) of Rhubarb (Dahuang), and 1.5 fen of Borneol (Bingpian). Grind uniformly. Mix with sesame oil, tea seed oil, or candle wax for topical application. This prescription yields miraculous results.
For burns caused by gunpowder: First clean the wound thoroughly with good-quality wine. Then, take several boiled egg yolks, render the oil, and set aside. Grind Rhubarb (Dahuang) into powder, mix with the rendered egg yolk oil, and apply topically for cure.
Eyebrow Painting Paste
Gardenia Fruit (Zhi Zi), stir-fried until black (3 fruits); Realgar (Xionghuang); Cinnabar (Zhusha); Calomelas (Qingfen) (each 1 fen).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix evenly with clear oil. When the child falls asleep, paint thickly on both eyebrows. Upon waking, the child will naturally refuse breastfeeding. If ineffective, repaint and continue applying ink to the nipples.
Fresh ginger, crushed into a thin paste, wrapped in cloth and applied, stops bleeding spontaneously.
Powder for Dusting: Mung Bean Powder (Lüdou Fen) and Talcum (Huashi), each 3 qian; Calomelas (Qingfen), 3 fen. Grind together into powder. Dip old cotton wadding into the powder and dust onto the affected area for efficacy.
(Two Prescriptions)
Worms found inside wild eggplant stems: Collect dozens of worms, mix them into food, and feed to the patient without their knowledge. After several doses, the illness will be cured; it is extremely effective. (Note: There are holes on the eggplant roots where these green-bodied, black-mouthed worms reside.) Another prescription: Maggots from open-air latrines. Place them in a fine mesh bag, rinse thoroughly in running water, bake on tiles until yellow. Mix one liang of dried maggots with two liang each of glutinous rice and japonica rice, stir-fry until cooked, and grind finely. Administer orally mixed with sugar and rice soup for self-healing.
