Fetal Cold refers to a condition in infants within one hundred days of birth, characterized by coldness in the mouth, abdominal pain, white diarrhea, occasional shivering and trembling, curled legs, clenched fists, and incessant crying day and night. Alternatively, it may present with trismus (lockjaw) where the mouth cannot be opened, lethargy, and deep sleep; it is treated with Zhimi Qiqi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction for Pointing Out the Path). If left untreated, it may develop into Slow Convulsion (a chronic convulsive disorder).
Zhimi Qiqi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction for Pointing Out the Path) is suitable for all conditions involving abdominal pain with alternating chills and fever, excessive crying, and refusal to nurse. These symptoms arise from the failure of Yin and Yang Qi to ascend and descend properly, resulting in the obstruction of the Qi mechanism. It is appropriate for these cases.
Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Ezhu (Curcuma Rhizome), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Gancao (Licorice Root), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Yizhiren (Bitter Apricot Seed), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), Dazao (Jujube Fruit).
Generally, the Qi within the human body, through inhalation and exhalation, is constantly connected with the Yin and Yang Qi of Heaven and Nature. Therefore, when the Six Excesses (Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire) invade from the exterior, the body responds and becomes diseased; this is the principle of receiving external pathogens. If internal Qi becomes blocked and the Way of Heaven does not flow freely, what should ascend fails to ascend, and what should descend fails to descend; this is the root cause of cold and heat pathologies. This formula can dredge and regulate the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs, producing miraculous effects, and its principles deserve deep comprehension.
Practitioners who can understand the waxing and waning of Yin and Yang will find that even without using the herbs in this formula, their actions will naturally align with the principles; however, such profound matters cannot be discussed with the ignorant.
Fetal Fatfulness refers to infants born with thick muscles and reddish skin throughout the body. After one month, they gradually become emaciated, with prominent whites of the eyes, heat sensation in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), difficult defecation, and frequent salivation. It is treated with the Bathing Method.
Fetal Frailty refers to infants born with dull eyes lacking luster, thin muscles, white watery stools, and a lack of color in the body. It is also treated with the Bathing Method.
