Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), stir-fried with wine; Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), washed with rice water; Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma), processed with ginger juice; Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), stir-fried to harmonize the middle jiao; Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), capable of circulating in the upper and lower parts; Taoren (Persicae Semen), skin and tip removed, pounded.
Lingxian (Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma), mixed with wine, capable of circulating in the upper and lower parts; Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus).

Gouty pain (Tongfeng) presents with different pathogenic factors such as cold, dampness, heat, phlegm, and blood stasis. This formula can treat them all generally. Huangbai clears heat; Cangzhu dries dampness.
(Note: The original text contains apparent typographical errors or missing segments. Based on context and standard editions of *Chengfang Qieyong*, the subsequent content mainly discusses the mechanism of "Sanhua Tang" for treating constipation in stroke and Zhang Zihe's views.)

For stroke resulting in no urination or defecation for several days, with internal excess of pathogenic factors, use this formula to gently promote evacuation. (Zhang Jingyue said: When wind strikes the meridians and collaterals, only dispersing and venting is appropriate. If purgatives are mistakenly used, wind pathogens will enter the fu and zang organs through the deficiency, causing incurable disasters. Regarding syndromes of organ involvement (Zhong Zang), there is often pre-existing deficiency, with the true qi of the organs failing to remain secure. A mistaken purge could lead to immediate death; one must be extremely cautious. Only in the case of the stomach fu, where there is internal excess and constipation, purgatives may occasionally be used. However, this is merely to relieve vexation and heat, not for massive purging. The so-called "slight sweating from one breath, slight purgation over ten days," should only be used when indicated. As for the legislation by Zhang Zihe and others, its key point lies in that for organ involvement... [text incomplete]. If pulse diagnosis dictates a fixed method, how can it serve as a standard? However, organ involvement has two presentations: mild and urgent. If exterior syndrome persists for a long time, heat becomes extreme and transmits to the organs, purgation may be considered. But purgation must eliminate both wind and heat, filling the empty cavities, so that wind does not regenerate. If one opens up congestion and stasis, it will inevitably exacerbate the wind pathogen. Why? In cases of sudden severe deficiency, if purgatives enter the mouth, the patient will lose consciousness immediately. Is it not necessary to distinguish these? Later generations identified constipation in exterior syndrome... [text fragmented]. Seeing that mistaken purgation did not harm people, they further believed Zhang Zihe's methods were applicable. If one encounters a true organ involvement syndrome and the purgation is inappropriate, recovery would be difficult.
The formula is found in Appendix Formulas under Upper and Lower Attack and Evacuation in Volume 4.
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Nongpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) constitute Xiao Chengqi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction). For fullness in the upper jiao, treat with Nongpu; for fullness in the middle jiao, break stagnation with Zhishi; for solidity in the lower jiao, seize the excess with Dahuang.
Why do modern practitioners always use opening-orifice methods to dispel wind, not realizing that emptying the orifices makes the wind pathogen more rampant? How will this endless cycle ever end?)
