(From *Ben Shi Fang*) Treats Zi Lin (dysuria during pregnancy), with symptoms of mental restlessness and agitation. (Zi Lin refers to deficiency-heat in the Bladder and Small Intestine channels. Deficiency fails to control water metabolism, while heat obstructs free flow, resulting in strangury. The Heart and Small Intestine are exterior-interiorly related, hence the sensation of vexation and oppression. There are also cases caused by sexual exhaustion, internal injury to the Bao Men [uterine gate], and deficiency of the Chong and Ren vessels. Ba Zhen Tang or Shen Qi Wan are appropriate.)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Deng Cao (Junci Medulla) (5 qian), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Hua Shi (Talcum), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (each 3 qian). Grind into powder. Take 2 qian each time, administered with Mai Dong decoction.
Chen Laizhang stated: For deficiency-heat, tonification is indicated; thus, the sweet properties of Ren Shen and Gan Cao are used. For strangury, unblocking is indicated; thus, the diaphoretic/drainage properties of Mu Tong and Deng Cao, and the slippery nature of Hua Shi are employed. Lung dryness prevents heavenly qi from descending as rain; only when upper and lower interact and Yin and Yang harmonize can urination flow freely. Blood dryness causes the "ditches" (fluid pathways) to lack moisture, whereas Dang Gui can nourish them.
Treats women whose Chong and Ren vessels have lost their hold, resulting in unstable and insecure fetal origin. Use this formula with modifications according to symptoms. It may be taken every other day, or once every two to three days, as a regular course.
(For cases where spleen and kidney deficiency lead to insecure fetus, this formula is most suitable. Generally, fetal insecurity is due to spleen deficiency, with kidney deficiency being particularly common.)
Ren Shen (dosage as appropriate), Dang Gui, Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 2 qian), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (2-3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1.5 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium).
If the lower yuan is insecure and accompanied by frequent turbid discharge, add Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Bu Gu Zhi (Psoraleae Fructus), etc. If Qi deficiency is severe, double the dosage of Bai Zhu and add Huang Qi (Astragali Radix).
[Text fragment]: ... add Gou Qi [Zi] (Lycii Fructus) 2 qian.
Treats recurrent miscarriage due to excessive fire and stagnation in the Liver and Spleen.
Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (2 qian), Bai Zhu (1-2 qian), Dang Gui (1.5 qian), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (0.5 qian), Chen Pi (1 qian), Shao Yao (1.5 qian).
Treats conditions such as fetal unrest caused by internal heat in the fetal qi.
Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Shao Yao (each 2 qian), Huang Qin, Dang Gui (1-2 qian), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis) (each 1 qian), Fu Ling (Poria), Gan Cao (7 [qian/fen, text truncated]).
