Treats all kinds of malignant sores, carbuncles on the back (Fabei), ding abscesses, and venereal sores. In the initial stage, the pulse is wiry, surging, full, and rapid; swelling is severe, and suppuration is imminent. (A wiry, surging, full, and rapid pulse indicates a syndrome of hardness and fullness, thus purgation is appropriate.)
Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Muli (Concha Ostreae), Zaojiaoci (Gleditsiae Spina), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) (1 qian).
Jinyinhua clears heat and resolves toxicity, serving as the principal herb for treating carbuncles and sores. Danggui and Chishao regulate Ying and Xue (nutritive blood); Dahuang and Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) purge stomach heat. Huangqin clears Lung fire, and Muli softens hard phlegm. Although these are herbs that disperse wind, it is known that purgative methods can be applied.
Treats widespread damp-heat rashes and various sores in the lower body characterized by redness, swelling, heat, and pain, with divine efficacy. Externally apply Sepiae Endoconcha powder (Oumiao Xiao Fen) to the affected area.
Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (1.5 qian), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) (2 qian), Baijili (Tribuli Fructus) (crushed with spines, 5 qian). If the heat is not severe, remove Longdancao and Zhizi, and add Danggui, Fuling (Poria), and Yiren (Coicis Semen). If damp-toxin is abundant, add Tufuling (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma) 5 qian, or 1-2 liang.
Treats carbuncles, ulcers, and rashes where Qi and Blood circulation is obstructed, pathogenic toxins cannot be resolved, there is no excess heat internally, yet pain and swelling are profuse. This formula is suitable for all such cases. It works in conjunction with Baicao Jian (Decoction of Hundred Herbs) as complementary strategies; one should consider their detailed applications.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (stir-fried with wine), Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix) (2 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (roasted), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) (1 qian).
After taking the medicine, drink several cups of wine to aid dispersion. If Qi deficiency requires tonification, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix).
Treats all kinds of carbuncles, ulcers, and malignant sores.
When one first feels the onset of a back carbuncle, before it has fully formed, presenting with redness, swelling, and pain: cover the area with wet paper; the spot that dries first indicates the head of the carbuncle. Take a single-clove garlic, slice it... [text fragmentary] ... treat early ... center ... heal. Prevent toxic qi from spreading ... at night ... do not press ... toxin. [Note: The original text here is fragmented, implying early intervention and observation to cure and prevent toxin spread.]
Treats myriad types of carbuncle toxins, various sore injuries, pain, putrid flesh, and swelling. Or conditions caused by wind-cold-dampness stagnating and wandering causing pain; there is no case where this is ineffective.
Baicao (Hundred Herbs) (Any herbs found in fields or mountains can be used, regardless of species. However, mountain herbs are superior, especially those with pungent and aromatic qualities. Dried herbs can be used in winter. They can clear heat; heat can be dispersed by them; aromatic herbs promote Qi movement; toxic herbs resolve toxicity. They are useful everywhere and reach every part. When decocted, the water absorbs the herbal essence, neutralizing any harmful properties of the water itself; conversely, the water enhances the herbal potency. This principle applies equally to making pastes from hundred herbs. This is indeed the most important and excellent method in external medicine, passed down to practitioners outside the mainstream. (For treating edema due to abdominal distension/shui-gu, use 20-30 jin of herbs per session, boil into strong decoctions in batches of 2-3 pots, store in large basins, shield from wind with mats, and fumigate/wash for a long time, once or twice daily. Internally administer Kuqing Yin and other diuretic formulas for wonderful results.))
