火郁发之之义
Treats conditions of Kidney Yin deficiency with excessive Fire, presenting with six pulses that are floating, surging, slippery, and large. This is characterized by insufficiency of Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) and excess in Yangming (Greater Yang), manifesting as vexatious heat, dryness and thirst, headache, toothache, and bleeding, etc. The efficacy is miraculous. However, if the patient suffers from loose stools, this formula is highly inappropriate.
Shigao (Calcitum, Raw Gypsum) [3-5 qian] Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) [3-5 qian or 1 liang] Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) [2 qian] Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) [1.5 qian]. If the Fire is extremely intense... causing Fire to fail to descend...
Treats latent Fire in the Spleen and Stomach, presenting with dry mouth and lips, oral ulcers, foul breath, vexatious thirst, easy hunger, and Heat in the muscles. (The mouth is the orifice of the Spleen; the lips are the external manifestation of the Spleen. Dry mouth and lips, oral ulcers, and foul breath all belong to Spleen Fire. Due to Spleen Heat, there is vexatious heat and easy hunger; the disease is named "Zhong Xiao" (Middle Consumptive Thirst). Since the Spleen governs the muscles, the Heat is in the flesh... If pressing heavily yields no heat, and light pressing also yields no heat, but moderate pressure reveals heat, and it worsens at night, this indicates Excess Heat of the Spleen. One should use this decoction along with Tiaowei Chengqi Tang. For Deficient Heat, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang. Note: Heat on the face, heat in the anterior body, heat throughout the whole body, mania with delirious speech and visions, all belong to Foot-Yangming. Heat in the shoulder and back, and heat behind the ankle, all belong to Foot-Taiyang. Heat in the mouth and dry tongue, chest heat with panting, and heat and pain in the soles of the feet, all belong to Foot-Shaoyin. Heat on the shoulders, a pulling sensation in the neck, aversion to cold and fever, all belong to Hand-Taiyang. Body heat and skin pain belong to Hand-Shaoyin; dribbling, shivering aversion to cold and fever belong to Hand-Taiyin. Heat in the palms belongs to Hand-Taiyin and Hand-Shaoyin. Heat with flaccid sinews that cannot contract, and impotence, belong to Foot-Yangming and Foot-Jueyin. It is also said: The Stomach is located above the navel; Stomach Heat causes heat above the navel. The Intestines are located below the navel; Intestinal Heat causes heat below the navel. The Liver and Gallbladder are located in the hypochondrium; Liver/Gallbladder Heat causes heat in the hypochondrium. The Lungs are located in the chest and back; Lung Heat causes heat in the chest and back. The Kidneys are located in the waist; Kidney Heat causes heat in the waist. The rest can be inferred analogously.)

Grind the above herbs into powder. Lightly stir-fry until fragrant. Take with wine.
Shanzhi clears Heart and Lung Fire, allowing it to descend through the curves, and exit via urination. Huoxiang regulates Qi of the Spleen and Lungs, removes stagnant Heat in the Upper Jiao, dispels malignancy, and harmonizes the Middle Jiao. Shigao... Again... Lian... Yuan says... Category.
