Treatment for Bi syndrome (Arthralgia) occurring in the hands and feet, where dampness flows into the joints. It also treats pain from wandering Bi (Liu Zhu) in the hands and feet, numbness with loss of sensation, and difficulty in flexion and extension.
Coix Seed (Yiyiren), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Peony Root (Shaoyao), Cinnamon Twig (Guixin), Ephedra Herb (Mahuang), Licorice Root (Ganzhi), Atractylodes Rhizome (Cangzhu - soaked in rice wash water and stir-fried). Add ginger and decoct.
This treats the condition where wind-dampness combats each other, leading to joint dysfunction. Therefore, Coix Seed is used as the sovereign drug to relax the sinews and dispel dampness. Its action is mild and slow, so it should be doubled in dosage, or even quadrupled.
Treatment for numbness of the fingers.
Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi - 2 qian), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Shengma), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu), Peony Root (Shaoyao), Raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gancao), Honey-fried Licorice Root (Zhi Gancao), Schisandra Fruit (Wuweizi - 5 fen).
Note: The Qi of all Yang meridians originates at the fingers. Numbness in the fingers indicates that wind pathogen has shown its beginning. One should urgently tonify Qi to resist external wind, thus using this formula as a preventive measure (making preparations before rain).
Treatment for Bi syndrome in the hands and feet, where wind excess causes disease in the extremities, and also for numbness due to wind-cold-dampness. (This porridge greatly treats paralysis of the limbs and swelling/pain; it is suitable for preventive consumption.)
Aconite Lateral Root (Wutou - raw, ground into powder). Each time use two he of fragrant, ripe white late rice, add four qian of the medicine powder, and cook into a thin porridge in a clay pot; do not make it too thick.
Add fresh ginger.
Note: The four limbs are the root of all Yang and the foundation. If Yang Qi fails first, how much more so the extremities of the meridians throughout the body? Therefore, Aconite is used combined with [text incomplete]...
Treatment for Bi syndrome in the upper part of the body.
See the formula in the Appendix of Guizhi Tang in Volume III.
This is the formula from *Jin Gui Yao Lue* for treating Blood Bi (Xue Bi). Blood Bi is treated with Guizhi Tang plus Astragalus because wind pathogen is predominant. Since wind nature tends upward, the Bi occurs in the upper part.

Treatment for Bi syndrome in the arms, and also for stroke, where weak blood and qi cause arm pain extending to sinews and bones, making movement difficult to support.
Prepared Aconite Lateral Root (Fuzi - processed), Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui), White Peony Root (Baishao - 1 qian), Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu - 7 fen), Poria (Fuling), Cinnamon Bark (Rougui - 5 fen), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shudi).
Note: Arm pain is due to sinews and vessels not relaxing. In robust individuals, wind within the sinews can be expelled. However, since it is already Blood Bi, the burden of wind-dryness endured is not slight. Therefore, this formula is selected... [Text incomplete]
