Treats conditions of shortness of breath resembling asthma, with urgent and rapid breathing, where the Qi cannot ascend and the throat cannot descend, airway obstruction occurs, and the condition is critical and life-threatening. Ordinary people only know that the urgency suggests the disease is in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), but they do not realize that this is due to the Root of the Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi) being rootless, caused by Liver and Kidney deficiency. This represents a failure of Zi-Wu (Midnight-Noon) intersection, constituting a Qi Collapse syndrome. This condition is particularly common in women with depleted Blood Sea (Chong and Ren meridians). It is appropriate to use this decoction to rescue and alleviate the condition; it can be boldly called a miraculous formula. When diagnosing such cases, the pulse must be fine, thready, and lacking spirit. If the pulse is thready and also tight, it is especially likely to be misunderstood by mediocre physicians as Phlegm rebellion and Qi stagnation. Using formulas like Niuhuang Suhexiang Wan or Qi-breaking agents such as Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), and Zhike (Immature Bitter Orange) will accelerate the danger.
Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (7-8 qian or 1 liang) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (2-3 qian) Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (1-2-3 qian). If accompanied by vomiting, nausea, or aversion to cold, add Wei Jiang (Baked Ginger) 3-5 qian.
(From *Ba Cui*) Descends Heart Fire, benefits Kidney Water, nourishes Yin and nourishes Blood, moistening without being drying.
Tiantong (Asparagi Rhizoma) Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (5 liang) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (3 liang, wine-fried) Sharen (Amomi Fructus) (0.5 liang) Gancao (Licorice Root) (7.5 qian, prepared). Made into pills using wheat paste. Use Congrong (Cynomorii Herba)...
Tiantong tonifies Lung to generate Water; Renshen tonifies Spleen to benefit Qi; Shudihuang tonifies Kidney to nourish Yin. Since the herbs bear the names of Heaven, Earth, and Man, their tonifying effects correspond to the Upper, Middle, and Lower [Jiaos].
Spleen movement... ratio.
Excluding the last three herbs, decocted in equal parts, named Sancai Tang (Three Powers Decoction), treating Spleen and Lung deficiency consumption with cough. Excluding the first three herbs, named Fengsui Dan (Phoenix Marrow Pill) (from *Zhi Yao*), treating excessive Heart Fire.
Treating Kidney deficiency causing pain in the lower back and legs.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (2-3 qian) Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (3-5 qian) Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) (2 qian) Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) (0.5 qian) Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) (1 qian) Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (8 qian, or supplement 2 qian).
Treating severe deficiency in Pulmonary Tuberculosis (Feilao). (The Lung governs Qi, and Qi is the root of the human body. If Lung Qi is deficient and further oppressed by Fire, it results in various syndromes such as pulmonary cough, hemoptysis, and lung atrophy.)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (2 liang) Tiantong (Asparagi Rhizoma) Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (4 liang). Made into honey pills.
The Lung governs Qi, and the root of Qi lies in the Dantian (Elixir Field). Therefore, the Lung and Kidney are mother-child organs. Only when Kidney Water can control Fire will Fire not punish Metal. Tiantong and Maidong clear Lung Heat... Yang.
