Pediatric vomiting and diarrhea caused by food stagnation are treated with Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder); those caused by stomach cold are treated with Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). In cases of vomiting and diarrhea accompanied by a deep and fine pulse and cold extremities, moxibustion should be applied 150 moxa cones at the point one cun below the umbilicus. For chronic convulsions accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea, moxibustion should be applied to Zhongwan (CV 12) with 50 moxa cones. (If parents are willing to use Jiangfu Tang, it is already fortunate for the child; however, persuading them to accept 150 moxa cones via moxibustion is practically impossible, leaving only empty words.)
This syndrome arises from cold substances injuring the Spleen, leading to Spleen deficiency and an inability to transform and transport water and grain, resulting in the retention of cold fluids in the Middle Jiao. Mild cases present with edema of the face and eyes, while severe cases involve swelling extending to the scrotum. Administration of Jinye Dan (Golden Liquid Pill) can cure mild cases within five days and severe cases within half a month. During this period, soft porridge should be consumed for half a month, and hard foods must be avoided. (Jinye Dan is indeed a miraculous life-saving medicine, but people in the world do not recognize it. Even adults have many doubts, so how could children consent to take it?)
For pediatric cough due to Lung cold, Huagai San (Canopy Powder) is used. If cough worsens after taking cooling medicines and antitussives, Wuge San (Five Diaphragms Powder) should be administered. If cough is accompanied by facial edema, Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder) is used. Cough with a red face indicates heat in the Upper Jiao, treated with Zhimu Huangqin Tang (Anemarrhena and Scutellaria Decoction). (Cough with red face belongs to excess heat in the Upper Jiao, suitable for Anemarrhena Rhizoma and Scutellaria Root; if cough is severe with red face and vomiting of saliva/foam, warming and tonifying Qi and Blood is appropriate.)
Cold qi invading the Stomach causes failure to digest water and grain, leading to loose and slippery stools, and in severe cases, rectal prolapse. These are primarily treated with Nongchang San (Intestine-Thickening Powder) and Banshou Wan (Banxia and Sulfur Pill).
Cold substances injuring the Spleen cause distension; Laifu Dan (Restoration Pill) and Quanzhen Dan (Complete True Pill) may both be used.
Dysentery caused by stagnation is cured using Rusheng Bing (Like-Sage Cake) to resolve stagnation. Dysentery caused by summer-heat injury, presenting with bloody stools and swelling, is treated with Huanglian Wan (Coptis Pill). Abdominal pain is treated with Danggui Shaoyao Tang (Angelica and Peony Decoction). Cold pathogens lodging in the intestines and stomach causing white discharge are treated with Jiangfu Tang or Taohua Wan (Peach Blossom Pill).
Diarrhea caused by fire-heat is treated with Zhenzhu San; diarrhea caused by food stagnation is treated with Rusheng Bing or Ganying Wan (Responsive Pill).
Deficiency of Zang-Fu Qi generates internal cold; extreme cold causes abdominal pain. There are also cases where pain originates from cold acquired in the womb. Five fen of Liu Huang Fen (Sulfur Powder) is mixed and applied to the nipple for the infant to suckle, which cures the condition. Children aged three to four years are given Laifu Dan.
