This disease arises from a deficiency of Heart Blood, combined with damage to the Pericardium (Pericardium Meridian) by the Seven Emotions and Six Desires, or invasion by Wind Pathogen. Consequently, it manifests as Feng Kuang (Wind-induced Mania), characterized incoherent speech, and behaviors such as holding a knife and climbing onto roofs.

Treatment Method: First, administer Shui Sheng San (Sleeping Holy Powder). Moxibustion is applied to Juque (CV14) for 20-30 moxa cones, followed by moxibustion on both Xinyu (BL15) acupoints, 5 cones each. Internally, take Zhenxin Dan (Heart-Calming Pill) and Dingzhi Wan (Will-Fixing Pill). (In this condition, there are cases of Re Kuang (Heat Mania) due to flourishing Yangming Pulse, which can be cured with cooling methods; there are cases of Nu Kuang (Anger Mania) resulting from sudden frustration and inability to resolve conflicts, which cease when food intake is restricted, treated with Sheng Tie Luo Yin (Calcined Iron Drop Drink). Both these presentations represent Excess-type Mania. However, Deficiency-type cases are more common and must not be misdiagnosed; an error could prove fatal instantly. Causes include deficiency of Heart Blood, depletion of Kidney Water, insufficiency of both Spirit and Will, fright, or delusional thoughts. All these are Deficiency syndromes. Careful differentiation and treatment will ensure no deviation from correct principles.)

Clinical Case Record
A patient suffered from Feng Kuang for five years, with intermittent episodes unresponsive to various treatments. I administered three qian of Shui Sheng San, followed by 50 moxa cones on Juque. Upon waking, the medication was repeated. Then, 50 moxa cones were applied to Xinyu, and one dose of Zhenxin Dan was taken. I stated, "Since the illness has persisted for a long time, a severe exacerbation must occur before recovery." Indeed, after a severe episode lasting one day, the patient fully recovered.
A woman developed this syndrome postpartum and was also cured through moxibustion and administration of Jiang Fu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction), as described above.

This occurs because Zephyr Wind (Thief Wind) enters the Yangming Meridian. Its vessels encircle the mouth and lips; upon exposure to wind, the meridians become tense and contracted. Similarly, invasion of the Hand-Taiyang Meridian by Wind can present this syndrome.

Treatment Method: Moxibustion should be applied to Dicang (ST4) for 20 moxa cones, with cone sizes resembling wheat grains. Treat the left side if symptoms are on the left, and the right side if on the right. Subsequently, administer Ba Feng San (Eight-Wind Powder) and San Wu Qi San (Three-Five-Seven Powder). Full recovery can be expected within one month. (This syndrome differs from the facial paralysis seen as a complication of Stroke (Zhong Feng); here, the body suffers no other distress, presenting only this isolated symptom, indicating the presence of Thief Wind. There is a distinction between injury to tendons and vessels: tendon injury causes pain, whereas vessel injury does not. Although slightly different, the treatment methods remain the same.)

For any open sores or wounds caused by metal blades, plaster should be applied first to ward off Wind. Otherwise, Wind Qi may enter internally, leading to Po Shang Feng (Traumatic Tetanus). This condition is most urgent and requires early treatment; delay renders it incurable. In the initial stage, if Wind lodges in the Taiyang Meridian, it causes trismus (lockjaw), opisthotonos (backward arching of the back), and rigidity of the neck and back. Immediately administer Jin Hua San (Golden Flower Powder), taking two or three doses consecutively. Recovery follows with sweating. If rescue is delayed, the condition becomes critical, characterized by spontaneous sweating on the forehead. Rapid moxibustion of Guanyuan (CV4) for 300 cones can save life; however, if True Qi collapses, moxibustion becomes useless. (Although the injury appears minor, the harm is significant. Even a wound in a single hair follicle can pose a life-threatening emergency. For instance, a person plucked a single whisker, resulting in sudden swelling and refusal to eat. When consulted, I diagnosed it as Po Shang Feng and advised immediate moxibustion. The surgeon mistakenly identified it as a whisker carbuncle and treated it with cold-natured herbs. Within a few days, the patient died from spasms.)
