Whenever a person washes their hair, or engages in sexual intercourse, or seeks coolness by facing the wind, it causes "thief-wind" (pathogenic wind) to invade the Taiyang Meridian (the Foot-Taiyang Bladder channel affected by pathogenic factors), or the Fengfu acupoint, causing sudden collapse, lockjaw, and opisthotonos of the four limbs.
Urgently administer Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). For severe cases, moxa-stimulate the Shimen acupoint with thirty moxa cones. (If this syndrome were not caused by sexual injury, how could it reach such a state? Be cautious! Be cautious!)
Whenever teeth are picked with knives or needles, causing the tooth roots to become hollow and exposed, wind-pathogens take advantage of the deficiency, leading to dental caries. In acute cases, ulceration occurs within moments; urgently administer Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). For severe cases, moxa-stimulate the Shimen acupoint.
(The Kidneys govern bones, and teeth are the surplus of bones. When broken and exposed, wind-pathogens directly attack the Kidney Meridian, causing rapid ulceration. To abandon Jiangfu Tang and use cold-cooling herbs would lead to complications; can this be spoken of lightly?)
This syndrome arises because the Spleen and Stomach have been weak since early times, injured by cold food and drink, or due to taking purgative and cold-cooling medicines for illness, which damages Spleen-Qi, rendering it unable to circulate water passages. Consequently, water-dampness flows into the four limbs and hundred vessels, causing generalized edema, while urination becomes scanty and difficult, and defecation becomes loose. This disease is most severe; physicians of the world all use diuretic and edema-resolving drugs, which merely accelerate death.
Treatment method: First, moxa-stimulate the Mingguan acupoint with two hundred moxa cones, then administer Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill), Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill), or Caoshen Dan (Grass Spirit Pill). For severe cases, administer Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). After five to seven days, if the disease subsides, urination increases, stool becomes firm or moist, and appetite returns, this indicates efficacy. Consume only white rice porridge; after one month, consuming wheat cakes and noodles is permissible. One must continuously take Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill) and Laifu Dan (Returning Life Pill) for a permanent cure. If one has previously taken diuretic drugs like Yuanhua (Kadua Root) or Daji (Euphorbia Lathyris) that damaged Yuan-Qi (Primal Qi) or caused its collapse, treatment is impossible, and even moxibustion will be useless. If water oozes from the moxibustion sores after application, or if urination remains blocked despite taking alchemical pills, it signifies the collapse of True-Yuan (True Primal Qi), and treatment is impossible. A wiry and large pulse is easy to treat; a deep and fine pulse is difficult to cure.
Clinical Cases
One patient had swelling in all four limbs, shortness of breath, and abdominal distension upon eating, consuming only thin porridge. I instructed him to take one hundred grains of Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill) daily. By the fourth day, he felt his bowels moving smoothly. Two days later, I allowed him to eat noodles without issue, as the treatment was initiated early.
A female patient suffered from facial and foot edema with reduced appetite. Physicians of the world treated her as Blood Deficiency without effect. I stated this was not a Blood disease but Spleen-Stomach Deficiency, prescribing ten grains of Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill) and fifty grains of Quanzhen Dan (Complete Truth Pill) daily. By the tenth day, her bowels moved smoothly, and the disease resolved.
(The mother of Academician Yu, over seventy years old, usually suffered from cough, asthma, and blood-tinged sputum, frequently taking Yin-nourishing and cooling-moistening agents. In autumn, she suddenly developed edema, severe asthma making lying down difficult, progressive swelling, and poor intake; upon eating, she gasped as if dying. Various physicians' medications failed, so they invited me to treat her. The six pulses were wiry, large, and rapid, feeling even more vigorous yet empty upon pressure. I said: This is deficiency and exhaustion of Fire-Qi in the Triple Burner, failing to root itself and floating outward. Water follows Qi rushing, filling the flesh and overflowing the skin pores. It requires warming to transform; otherwise, rescue is impossible. She said: I naturally have internal heat and do not take warming-tonics; even a slice of ginger causes blood in my sputum. Although your theory is correct, I fear hot medicines are unsuitable. I said: With this disease, take this medicine; holding to preconceptions is difficult. Moreover, the six pulses are tight and large, indicating the Taiyang channel has lost its root; loss of root means collapse. This results from long-term exposure to cold and coolness. If we again abandon warming-tonics, there may be no life left. Please allow me to decline. She said: As long as you do not trigger bleeding syndromes, how dare I disobey? I prescribed a ten-ingredient formula containing Fuzi (Aconite Lateralis Radix Preparata), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), and Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit), along with Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 3 qian. In less than three doses, wrinkles appeared on her abdomen; in eight doses, the swelling completely subsided, and her diet returned to normal. After two more doses, she was fully cured, and her old symptoms of cough, asthma, and bloody sputum never recurred.)
(A woman’s son traveled far away, leaving them unable to afford even coarse meals. Grief-stricken, she fell ill, developing edema and asthma with inability to consume porridge for over a month. A friend saw me and mentioned this woman, saying: Would you be willing to do a good deed? I said: Since it is called a good deed, how dare I disobey? We went together. Upon diagnosis, her six pulses were nearly imperceptible, her umbilicus protruded, her waist was round, and she panted too severely to lie flat. The failure of Spleen and Kidney seemed irrecoverable. Therefore, I prescribed the Ten-Ingredient Formula, ordering four doses. Her panting slightly stabilized, and swelling gradually decreased; she began craving food. On re-examination, her pulse showed slight improvement. After another four doses, the swelling disappeared, and food intake increased. Alas! Alas! If abandoned untreated, although she might not die by my hand, I would truly be responsible for her death. My friend was greatly pleased.)
