How to treat anosmia (loss of smell)? One must target the Yingxiang (LI18) acupoint for acupuncture.
Remember clearly to apply tonification first and sedation later; before the golden needle is withdrawn, the Qi will already be unblocked.
Yingxiang (LI18): Located in the crease five fen lateral to the nostril. Perpendicular insertion one fen, or oblique insertion along the skin posteriorly and superiorly three fen. Sedation should predominate over tonification. Moxibustion is contraindicated.
Severe pain in the eyebrows and eyes can be treated by inserting the needle along the skin into the Cuanzhu (BL2) acupoint without causing harm.
If the pain is in the eyes, the same treatment applies; needling Touwei (ST8) will naturally restore health.
Cuanzhu (BL2): Located in the depression at the medial end of the eyebrow. Insert two fen, obliquely towards Yuyao (EX-HN4). Sedation should predominate over tonification. Moxibustion is contraindicated.
Touwei (ST8): Located at the corner of the forehead at the hairline. Oblique insertion downward along the skin to penetrate Xuanli (GB7); this point is at the frontal angle. Use sedation for pain and tonification for vertigo. Moxibustion for fourteen Zhu (units of moxa cones) leads to recovery.
For the nine types of heart pain and spleen pain, the Shangwan (CV13) acupoint is suitable for needling.
If the spleen function is failing, sedation should also be applied to Zhongwan (CV12). Using both needles together prevents disaster.
Shangwan (CV13): Located five cun above the umbilicus. Perpendicular insertion three and a half cun, applying tonification or sedation according to deficiency or excess.
Zhongwan (CV12): Located four cun above the umbilicus. To locate it, measure from Jiawei (CV15) down to the umbilicus with a straw and take the midpoint. Perpendicular insertion two and a half cun. Moxibustion up to fifty Zhu. Apply tonification.
When pathogenic factors of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) stagnate in the Upper Jiao, symptoms include dry tongue, bitter taste, and general malaise.

(Attachment: Heart Deficiency and Gallbladder Cold)
Shaochong (HT9) is located on the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) meridian; its functions are numerous and it is certainly suitable for needling.
For Heart Deficiency and Gallbladder Cold, apply tonification and sedation; for surging Heat in the Upper Jiao, seek points in the hand.
Shaochong (HT9): Located at the radial side of the tip of the little finger, distance from the nail corner equal to the width of a leek leaf. Perpendicular insertion one fen, obliquely backward along the skin three fen. Apply tonification or sedation according to deficiency or excess. Contraindicated... [Text cuts off]
Tongli (HT5): Located one cun proximal to the styloid process of the ulna at the wrist. Perpendicular insertion one fen. Sedation is indicated, not tonification; tonification may exacerbate symptoms. Moxibustion is contraindicated.
Dementia is characterized by lack of spirit and confusion regarding social hierarchy, which is most distressing.
Shenmen (HT7) alone treats dementia; turn the hand to find the point accurately in the depression behind the high bone.
