Xia Yingbai stated: For all tuina (massage) procedures, scallion and ginger water should be used to soak the practitioner's thumb. If the child's condition is severe, musk powder should be applied to the practitioner's finger for use. The operation begins by pushing from the glabella (Yintang acupoint) upwards to the forehead twenty-four times, which is called "Opening the Heavenly Gate" (Kai Tian Men).
Xia Yingbai stated: After "Opening the Heavenly Gate," push separately from the glabella towards the outer ends of the eyebrows at the Taiyin and Taiyang acupoints nine times (in multiples of nine). The Taiyin acupoint is located slightly outside the right eyebrow, and the Taiyang acupoint is located slightly outside the left eyebrow.
Xia Yingbai stated: After separating the pushes at the Taiyin and Taiyang acupoints, pinch each of the following acupoints with the thumbnail: Tinggong (Heavenly Court), Glabella (Yintang), Shangen (Mountain Root), Yannian (Longevity), Zhuntou (Nose Tip), Renzhong (Governor Vessel 26), and Chengjiang (Chin Groove). The Tinggong acupoint is on the forehead; the Glabella is at the junction between the two eyebrows; Shangen is in the nasal depression; Yannian is on the high bone of the nose bridge; Zhuntou is at the tip of the nose; Renzhong is below the nose and above the upper lip; Chengjiang is in the depression below the lower lip.
Xia Yingbai stated: After pinching the Tinggong and other acupoints, use both hands to twist and rub the child's earlobes, then hold the child's head with both hands and shake it.
Xia Yingbai stated: These four methods are always used first in tuina to open the orifices and meridians, after which other methods are selected for use.
Xia Yingbai stated: When treating girls, rubbing the Taiyin acupoint induces sweating; if sweating is excessive, rubbing the Taiyang acupoint a few times stops it. When treating boys, rubbing the Taiyin acupoint instead stops sweating.

Xia Yingbai stated: Use both hands to pinch and rub the child's earlobes to treat wind-pathogens. If the child's eyes deviate to the left, rub the right earlobe; if they deviate to the right, rub the left earlobe; if they deviate upward, rub the lower part of the earlobe; if they deviate downward, rub the upper part of the earlobe. If the eyes do not deviate initially, the pressure applied should be consistent in lightness and heaviness.
Tu Weisheng stated: The character "wind" (Feng) in this section was originally "startle" (Jing) in Xia Yingbai's original text. I believe that while "startle-wind" (Jing Feng) belongs to a distinct category, reading Xia Yingbai's mention of "startle" in this section inherently contains the meaning of "wind." Therefore, I changed it to "wind" to avoid confusion.
Xia Yingbai stated: Pushing from Kan to Gen in a counter-clockwise direction treats heat syndromes and also stops vomiting; pushing from Gen to Kan in a clockwise direction treats cold syndromes and also stops diarrhea. In the palm, Li corresponds to South, Kan to North, Zhen to East, Dui to West, Qian to Northwest, Gen to Northeast, Xun to Southeast, and Kun to Southwest. All these directions correspond to pushing the left hand.
