(Attached: Sha Syndrome)
[General Discussion] Contracting the pathogen in deep halls and large mansions is termed Summerheat Stroke (Zhongshu). Engaging in labor under the midday sun is termed Intense Heat (Zhongre). There are three types: Exposed to Summerheat (Maoshu), Summerheat Stroke (Zhongshu), and Damaged by Summerheat (Shangshu); these differ only in severity. Abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea indicate Exposed to Summerheat (Maoshu), which should be treated with cooling, resolving, clearing, and draining methods. Body heat, headache, restlessness, or a greasy face with cold back, leading to unconsciousness, indicates Summerheat Stroke (Zhongshu), which should be treated with warming and dispersing methods. Loss of appetite, fatigue in the four limbs, and continuous sweating indicate that heat has damaged the Yuan Qi (Primary Energy), which should be treated with clearing summerheat and benefiting qi methods. Tonicus and spasms of the hands and feet indicate Summerwind (Shufeng); it cannot be treated as ordinary wind, but rather with cooling medicines combined with meridians-unblocking medicines. Contracting intense heat or summerheat stroke in summer occurs due to seasonal pathogens; sometimes it resembles Cold Damage (Shanghan). However, Cold Damage presents with aversion to cold and cold body, while Summerheat damage presents with aversion to heat and hot body. Thus, a tight pulse with aversion to cold and no sweat under the hypochondrium indicates Cold Damage (Shanghan); a deficient pulse with body heat and sweat under the hypochondrium indicates Damaged by Summerheat (Shangshu). This is because summerheat damage scatters the qi, resulting in a weak and scattered pulse, or a wiry, fine, and slow pulse. Therefore, careful examination is required.
[Summerheat Stroke] Summerheat Stroke refers to contracting the pathogen while at rest. Avoiding summerheat in deep halls and large mansions causes suppression by yin-cold, preventing summerheat from dissipating. Thus, cold is the branch (manifestation), and heat is the root (essence). First, treat the branch (cold) with acrid-warm medicines, then treat the root (heat) with cooling medicines. If there is headache, aversion to cold, stiffness and tension of the body, joint pain, irritability, fever, and anhidrosis, although caused by summerheat, it should still be treated like Cold Damage (Shanghan). Use Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, fried, 1 qian), Licorice Root (Gancao, 8 fen, fried yellow), Apricot Seed (Xingren, skin and tip removed, fried and ground), and Cinnamon Twig (Rougui, skin removed, each 6 fen). Decoct in water and take warm. If irritability occurs, mix well water and take. In midsummer, one must allow slight sweating; this is the way of preserving health according to the season. The Classics state: "Those who do not sweat during summer heat will develop Wind-Malaria (Fengnüe) in autumn."
[Intense Heat] When exposed to summerheat during long journeys, if one initially feels dizziness and stuffiness, immediately chew one clove of garlic or a piece of fresh ginger, mash it, and swallow with cold water to regain consciousness. If unable to chew, grind with water and administer. Soap Pod (Zaoyanjiao, scrape off black skin, select non-borer ones), burn until smoke is about to cease, cover with a basin on the ground without letting smoke escape. Take 1 liang of soap pod powder, add 6 qian of Licorice Root (Gancao, baked and ground), mix evenly. Take 1 qian per dose with warm water. For severe cases, take 2 qian. Even those in coma can be revived immediately. (Soap pod promotes unblocking and removes phlegm.) People on the road, under the fierce sun, overexerted, suddenly faint. Do not let them get cold or drink cold water; getting cold makes them incurable. If no medicine is available in haste, take slightly heated yellow earth from the road, pile it on the umbilicus, leaving the navel hollow, have one or two people urinate into it, then mash garlic and administer with warm water. Once internal and external flow is smooth, life can be restored. Pouring hot water slowly into the umbilicus is better, or applying hot water-soaked cloth to moxibustion point Guanyuan (CV-4, 3 cun below the umbilicus) can also revive immediately. After revival, eating cold things is incurable. For the above conditions, if Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Tablet) is used, dissolve 1 qian in slightly warm well water and administer, or urgently use Zhizhi Dan (Treasure Pill for Urgency) 5-7 pills dissolved in warm water to revive immediately, which is superior to other methods.
[Exposed to Summerheat] Headache, abdominal pain, confusion, vomiting or diarrhea. Schizonepeta Spike (Xiangru, 1 qian), Poria (Fuling, 2 qian), White Hyacinth Bean (Baibiandou, 2-3 qian, fried). Decoct in water and take. If heat is severe, add Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 1 qian, fried with ginger juice). If chest and diaphragm feel full and stifling, add Magnolia Bark (Houpo, 1.5 qian, fried with ginger juice). If the pulse is deficient, add... [Text cuts off here]
[Damaged by Summerheat] Limb fatigue, continuous sweating, weak legs. Ginseng Root (Renshen), Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong, each 2 qian), Schisandra Berry (Wuweizi, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take.
[Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction (Zhuye Shigao Tang)] Treats qi deficiency with summerheat, irritability. Gypsum (Shigao), Pinellia Tuber (Banxia, processed), Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong, each 2 qian), Ginseng Root (Renshen), Licorice Root (Gancao, each 1 qian), Rice (Jingsmi, a pinch), Bamboo Leaves (Zhuye, 20 leaves), add Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang, 3 slices). Decoct in water and take. For all heat syndromes with irritability and thirst, feeling heart and stomach heat, Gypsum (Shigao) is appropriate.
[Yiyuan Powder (Yiyuan San)] Treats summerheat contraction, stifling sensation, body heat, and difficult urination. Talcum (Huashi, 6 liang, purified by water flotation), Powdered Licorice Root (Fen Gancao, 1 liang, ground extremely fine), Cinnabar (Zhusha, 3 qian). All ground fine and mixed evenly. Take 2-3 qian per dose, mixed with newly drawn well water or Centella Tea (Dengxin Cao Tang). Suitable for intense summer heat.
[Summerheat Stroke with Urinary and Fecal Obstruction] Apple Snail (Tianluo, 3 snails), Green Salt (Qingyan, 3 fen). Mash together and apply 1 cun below the umbilicus to restore passage.
[Resolving Summerheat] Kudzu Root (Gegen, 2 liang), Perilla Leaf (Suye), Dark Plum Flesh (Wumei Rou, each 4 liang), Green Salt (Qingyan, 1 liang), White Sugar (Baitang, 1 jin). All made into powder, mixed with sugar and pounded into pills. Hold in mouth occasionally to dissolve. Generates saliva in the mouth, protects against summerheat during travel. If thirsty and out of water during travel, chew 2 cun of raw green onion and swallow with saliva; this can replace drinking 2 sheng of water.
[Taiyi Zijin Ding] (Treats all diseases with rapid effect, suitable for both cold and heat, truly reviving the dead, immortal treasure, prepared to benefit humanity, miraculous effects cannot be fully described.) Smilax Glabra Rhizome (Shancigu, wash off hairs and skin, slice, bake, grind fine, 3 liang), Chinese Gall (Wubeizi, crush, clean, grind fine, 2 liang), Jing Sanqian (Note: Text unclear, likely a specific preparation or error, kept as is), Manchu Tree Root (Shandougen, dry and grind, 6 qian). Prepare medicines in advance. Choose Duanwu Festival, Qixi Festival, or auspicious days. Mix in a clean room. Weigh medicines into a large mortar, grind hundreds of times, then transfer to a stone mortar. Add glutinous rice flour paste (thickness like tangyuan dough), adjust moisture content, pound with wooden pestle 1200-300 times until smooth and glossy. Each tablet weighs 3-5 fen to 1 qian.
One treats all food and drug poison, gu poison, and eating meat of self-dead cattle, horses, livestock, toxic mushrooms, pufferfish, etc. Misconsumption leads to bloating, stifling, and fainting. Urgently grind with cool water, take 1 qian, mild cases 5 fen. Chew slightly during travel to prevent pathogen invasion.
One treats mountain miasma and foul air, touching filth on the road, causing immediate vomiting, aversion to cold and high fever. Grind with cool water, take 1 qian, mild cases 5 fen. Chew slightly during travel to prevent pathogen invasion.
One treats sudden collapse from wind-stroke. Grind with ginger soup.
One treats carbuncles, sores, and all unnamed swellings. Grind with pure wine. Apply externally with rice vinegar, leave a small hole, apply several times day and night. For ulcerated cases, apply only, do not ingest.
One treats all throat wind blockages, double or single tonsillitis, inability to swallow liquids, incurable cases. Grind with cold mint tea or hold in mouth to dissolve, immediate effect.
One treats intense heat and summerheat stroke. Grind with warm well water. If vomiting or diarrhea, grind with ginger soup.
One treats all acute watery diarrhea, cholera, intestinal cramping sha, red and white dysentery. Grind with ginger soup.
One treats men and women with acute evil possession, mania, shouting and running, ghost oppression. Grind with Acorus Decoction (Shichangpu).
One treats all poisonous insects, venomous snakes, mad dog bites, causing immediate swelling, confusion, shouting, imminent death. Grind with wine, administer and apply to wound. Drink one bowl of green onion soup (cover with blanket, sweat to revive immediately).
One treats pediatric acute and chronic convulsions, all cold and heat diseases. Grind with mint tea. For distension and dysphagia, grind with malt tea.
One treats amenorrhea in women. Grind with Safflower (Honghua) tea.
One treats summer malaria and evil malaria. At onset, grind with peach and willow branch decoction made with east-flowing water.
For contagious epidemic diseases, grind peach root decoction thickly and apply to nostrils, then take a little. Allows entering sick houses without infection. Wear often to dispel evils.
For the above evils, adults take 1 qian, weak persons half dose. Infants under one year take 0.5-1 fen, 1-2 years old take 2-3 fen. Vomiting or diarrhea indicates efficacy. Severe cases take two doses consecutively. Pregnant women forbidden. Forbidden foods when taking this pill: sweets, licorice. Within 1-2 days, listed treatments indicate general principles. Empirical points for each disease, burning repels ghosts and all snakes/insects. Truly a treasure for protecting life and saving the world. Suitable for wearing at home or traveling.
[Jisha Zhizhi Dan] Toad Venom (Chansu, taken from live toads, dried, 3 qian, cut in half before use, dissolved in liquor), Clove (Dingxiang, 2 qian, ground fine), Real Xihuang (Zhen Xihuang, 3 fen, ground), Guang Agarwood (Guang Muxiang, 2 qian, ground fine), Agarwood (Chenxiang, 2 qian, ground fine), Maoshan Atractylodes (Maoshan Cangzhu, 4 qian, soil-fried until scorched; if not scorched, it molds easily), Cinnabar (Zhusha, water-flowered, 1.5 qian), Realgar (Xionghuang, water-flowered, 3 qian), Musk (Shexiang, cleaned, 1 qian). Grind all medicines extremely fine in advance. Follow Taiyi Dan method, choose auspicious day, mix evenly in clean room. Add Toad Venom and five glutinous rice dumpling tips, pound over 1000 times. Roll into pepper-sized pills (dry, store in fine porcelain lidded bowl, coat inside with 1.5 qian Cinnabar mixed with liquor, seal and shake 1000-2000 times until shiny). Store in porcelain jar. Take 3 pills per dose, mild cases 1 pill, severe cases 5 pills. Swallow with spring water (or hold in mouth to dissolve with saliva). Specifically treats cholera vomiting/diarrhea, abdominal pain, coma, and all sha, summerheat, and miasma pathogens, touching filth on road, summer heat, intestinal cramping sha. Even if dead on road with faint breath, administering restores life. Pain relief is miraculous. Pregnant women take less. Prepared to save lives, effects cannot be fully described. (After taking medicine, abstain from smoking, tea, alcohol, and meals for 1-2 hours.)
[Renma Ping'an San] Cinnabar (Zhusha, water-flowered, 5 qian), Realgar (Xionghuang, water-flowered, 5 qian), Yueshi (3 qian), Saltpeter (Huoxiao, boiled in radish seed juice, purified, 5 qian), Borneol (Bingpian, 1 qian), Musk (Shexiang, cleaned, 1 qian). All ground extremely fine. Mix evenly on auspicious day, then add Alum (Mingfan, 3 qian, ground fine), mix again. Store in porcelain jar. Treats all summerheat/intense heat, abdominal pain, dizziness, and touching filth on road. Put a little in nose, eye corners, or take a little orally. Immediate miraculous effect.
[Method for Treating Intestinal Cramping Sha] Yin Sha: Sudden severe abdominal pain, mental confusion, cold hands and feet, red spots on body. Dip rush grass in oil, light it, and cauterize (bring light close to flesh and lift immediately). Cured. Yang Sha: Severe abdominal pain but warm hands and feet. First, massage arm down to hand to gather bad blood in fingers, tie tightly with red string, prick back of finger near nail margin 1 fen, release purple blood to relieve. Or dip hand in warm water, slap vigorously on patient's knees and wrists. Prick purple-black areas to release bad blood to relieve. If urine/feces passed and patient dying, place raw taro slice in mouth, swallow juice to wake. Eat 2-3 more slices after waking to survive. Alum powder mixed with boiling water, take 3-5 qian, also effective.
[Black Sha] Commonly known as Full Sha. Patient collapses instantly, slight abdominal pain, dark and swollen face, no shouting. Severe cases die within 2-3 hours. Urgently use buckwheat, bake dry, grind, remove husk, make powder. Take 3 qian with warm water. Severe cases take another dose to cure. During medication, avoid tea. If later infected with other diseases, avoid if medicine contains Ferrous Sulfate (Zaofan). This condition is identified by eating clear oil without feeling oily, like water. Administer one bowl, vomiting cures it. For all sha syndromes, if in doubt, first brew mugwort soup to test. Vomiting indicates sha syndrome.
