[Cong Qing (Aeruginosa)]
The flavor is sweet and sour, the nature ranges from cold to great cold, and it is non-toxic. It primarily treats blindness (Qingmang, impaired vision or blindness) and deafness, brightens the eyes, benefits the nine orifices, unblocks the blood vessels, nourishes the spirit, supplements Liver Qi, treats redness and pain in the eyes, removes corneal opacities, stops tearing, promotes urination, induces lactation, unblocks the joints, and breaks down hard accumulations. Long-term consumption lightens the body, prolongs life, prevents aging, enhances memory, elevates aspirations, and leads to a state akin to immortals. It can transform copper, iron, lead, and tin into gold. It grows in the valleys of Yizhou and on Yue Mountains where copper deposits exist. Cong Qing forms when copper essence is fumigated; its interior is hollow. It is harvested in mid-March, but harvesting at other times is also possible.
Yue Mountain belongs to Yizhou. Currently, Cong Qing from Tongguan has the most vibrant and deep color; that from Shixing is inferior. Yizhou prefectures no longer produce it, likely due to long-term lack of mining. There are Cong Qing mountains in Xiping Commandery, Liangzhou, which yield abundant amounts. Current Cong Qing is mostly solid and round like iron beads, lacking hollow interiors, and is chiseled out from earth and stone. It is also used in alchemy to transform lead into gold. Among all mineral drugs, this is the most precious. Medical prescriptions rarely use it, preferring it for painting pigments, which is a great pity.
[Verified Record] This substance occurs where copper mines are found, encompassing various "Qing" minerals, but Cong Qing is the rarest. It is currently produced in Weizhou, Lanzhou, Xuanzhou, and Zizhou. The Xuanzhou variety is best: small chunks, sometimes hollow inside. The Weizhou and Lanzhou varieties have larger flakes, very deep color, and are not hollow.
[Lv Qing (Malachite)]
The flavor is sour, the nature is cold, and it is non-toxic. It benefits Qi, treats rhinorrhea (Qiubi, nasal discharge), and stops dysentery. It grows in caves on the shady side of mountains, with a greenish-white color.
This material is used as green pigment for painting. It is also derived from Cong Qing deposits, occurring intermixed. Painters currently call it Biqing (Azure Blue), while mistakenly referring to Cong Qing as Lv Qing, reversing the names.
[Zeng Qing (Chrysocolla/Azurite group)]
The flavor is sour, the nature is slightly cold, and it is non-toxic. It treats eye pain, stops tearing, addresses wind-bi syndrome, benefits the joints, unblocks the nine orifices, breaks down masses and accumulations, nourishes the Liver and Gallbladder, eliminates alternating chills and fever, kills white parasites, treats cephalalgia and cold in the brain, stops irritability and thirst, tonifies deficiencies, and strengthens Yin Qi. Long-term consumption lightens the body and prevents aging. It can transform gold and copper. It grows in the valleys of Shu and on Yue Mountains, with no fixed harvesting time.
It is incompatible with Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi). This description shares the same mountain range as Cong Qing, and its therapeutic properties are similar. Currently, Zeng Qing is no longer produced in Tongguan, only in Shixing. Its form consists of clustered nodules resembling linked Rhizoma Coptidis, with texture and color somewhat similar to Cong Qing. It is very rare and expensive, and rarely used in Daoist alchemical texts. The method for transforming metals is the same as that of Cong Qing.
[Verified Record] Zeng Qing is produced in Weizhou and Ci Ezhou; other prefectures do not utilize it.
