[Qiangzi (Celosia Seed)]
Bitter in taste, slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. Primarily treats pathogenic factors, heat within the skin, wind-induced generalized pruritus, and kills three types of parasites (intestinal worms). Treats malignant sores, scabies, lice, erosion from hemorrhoids, and bluish discoloration of the lower lip and mouth. Also known as Caohao (Mugwort-like herb), also known as Qihao. Grows alongside valleys and paths. Harvest stems and leaves in the third lunar month, dry in shade. Harvest seeds in the fifth and sixth lunar months. Found everywhere. Resembles flowers on wheat ears; its seeds are very fine. Later, another herb named Caohao appears; other editions also write it as [character missing/variant]. Currently, their main therapeutic effects are quite similar, and their forms and names are alike, causing much confusion, but they are actually two different species.
[Note] This herb has seedlings about one chi tall, with fine and soft leaves, purple-white flowers, and horn-shaped fruits. The seeds are black, flat, and glossy, larger than Amaranthus seeds. It grows in low-lying wet areas; harvested in the fourth and fifth lunar months. People in Jingxiang call it Kunlun Cao (Kunlun Grass); crushing it to extract juice and taking it alone greatly treats Wenli (warm pestilence).
[Yazi (Aconite Root Variant)]
Bitter and sour in taste, cold in nature, toxic. Primarily treats pathogenic heat, scabies, malignant ulcers, sores, and hemorrhoids; expels white worms (intestinal tapeworms/roundworms). Also known as Yelangya (Wild Wolf Tooth), Yelangchi (Wild Wolf Fang), Yelangzi (Wild Wolf Seed), and Yanya (Dog Tooth). Grows in the valleys of Huaifangchuan and Wanqu. Harvest roots in the eighth lunar month, dry in sun. Roots that have rotted due to dampness and grown fungal coatings are lethal. Facilitated by Wuyi (Terminalia chebula Retz.); incompatible with Diyuzhu (Sanguisorbae Radix) and Zaoji (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen). Found everywhere in nearby regions; the root resembles animal teeth.
[Bailian (Ampelopsis Rhizome)]
Bitter and sweet in taste, neutral to slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. Primarily treats carbuncles, swelling, gangrene, and sores; dissipates stagnant qi, relieves pain, clears heat and redness in the eyes, treats pediatric convulsions and epilepsy, warm malaria, and eliminates fire toxins. Also known as Tuhé (Rabbit Kernel), Baicao (White Herb), Baigen (White Root), and Kunlun. Grows in the valleys of Hengshan. Harvest roots in the second and eighth lunar months, dry in sun. Facilitated by Daizhe (Hematitum); incompatible with Wu Tou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata). Found everywhere in nearby regions; it is a vine. The root resembles Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi); sliced with bamboo and dried. Freshly harvested roots crushed and applied externally to swellings are also effective.
[Note]
This root resembles Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix); under one plant there are about ten roots. The skin is reddish-black, the flesh is white, resembling Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), differing...
