Treats cold pathogenic factors invading due to common cold. Headache and body pain. Stiffness and tension in the neck and back. Aversion to cold and vomiting. Abdominal pain. As well as cold-dampness lodging in the meridians, causing soreness and pain in the waist, legs, bones, and marrow. And conditions such as smallpox/variolae where cold predominates. ○ If Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) is removed and decocted with wine. It is very effective for treating Elephant Foot Disease (He Xi Feng, 鹤膝风) occurring after dysentery.
The Bureau Formula Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) is miraculous. The use of Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao, 芍药), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参), and Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) makes it even more wondrous. Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Juhong, 橘红), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Pinelliae Tuber (Banxia, 半夏), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang, 干姜), Cinnamomi Cortex (Guirou, 肉桂), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草). Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu, 苍术), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 枳壳), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo, 厚朴), and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi, 陈皮). [Dosages: Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Ephedrae Herba, Atractylodis Rhizoma, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium each 1 qian; Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Paeoniae Radix, Aurantii Fructus Immaturus each 8 fen; Pinelliae Tuber, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix each 7 fen; Platycodonis Radix, Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Poria, Cinnamomi Cortex, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma each 5 fen.]
Chen Xiuyuan said. Cold exists in both the exterior and interior. Externally manifesting as stiffness and pain in the head and neck. Internally manifesting as abdominal pain as well. More severe than Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) syndrome. Taking this formula.
Treating the initial stage of malaria.
Use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) (Formula seen in *Zhen Fang Ge Kuo*, Upper Volume, Shaoliao Section.) Remove Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma. Add Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Qingpi, 青皮) 2 qian.
Chen Xiuyuan said. In the initial stage of malaria, the use of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma is contraindicated. This is a trick of contemporary physicians. However, since it has been followed for a long time, let it be so. But if there is no sweating in the initial stage, add Ephedrae Herba 2 qian. If there is excessive sweating, add Paeoniae Radix and Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂枝) each 2 qian. If cold predominates, add Cinnamomi Ramulus and Zingiberis Rhizoma each 2 qian. If heat predominates, add Fritillariae Bulbus (Beimu, 贝母)...
After malaria has attacked three times, it can be taken. Take one dose at dawn. Take one dose one hour before the onset of malaria. Extremely effective.
Use Chai Hu Tang (Bupleurum Decoction) plus Heteropappus Herba (Changshan, 常山) 3 qian. Use raw, not stir-fried. (If the patient feels like vomiting after taking the medicine, induce vomiting by probing the throat with fingers. When the phlegm is completely vomited out, the disease will heal.)
Chen Xiuyuan said. Changshan (Heteropappus Herba) alone. Contemporary physicians consider it an astringent or obstructing agent. Misled by the theories of Li Shicai and Xue Lizhai, they dare not use it. Not knowing that it is a wonderful herb that penetrates from the Yin to the Yang, driving pathogens outward. Zhang Zhongjing used its sprout. (Named Shuqi, 蜀漆.) Later generations used its root. This truly follows the standards of the ancestors. Even if it is described as an emetic method, it precisely utilizes the vomiting action. To remove accumulated malaria, the malaria stops. ○ "Xuan" (Promote/Disperse) can resolve obstruction (Using the relationship between ruler and minister as a metaphor, calling the minister by the ruler is called "Xuan". "Xuan" refers to emetic agents. Also, stagnation without dispersion is called obstruction. It must be dispersed by "Xuan". For example, Zingiberis Rhizoma fresh (Shengjiang, 生姜), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jupi, 橘皮)...)
