Clears the fire pathogens from the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) and all six meridians.
Liangge Tang (Cool the Diaphragm Decoction) contains Rhubarb (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mirabilite (Natrii Sulfas), Gardenia Fruit (Gardeniae Fructus), and Forsythia Fruit (Forsythiae Fructus). It also includes Scutellaria Root (Scutellariae Radix), Licorice Root (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and a generous amount of Mint (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba). Add Bamboo Leaves (Bambusae Folium) and adjust with Honey (Mel). (Since bamboo leaves grow on the branches, they treat disorders of the Upper Jiao.) The burning sensation in the diaphragm is relieved after one dose. (Prescription: Forsythia 1.5 qian, Rhubarb marinated in wine, Mirabilite, and Licorice each 1 qian, Gardenia and Scutellaria each 0.5 qian, Mint 0.5 qian. Boil in 1.5 cups of water, add 7 bamboo leaves and 1 spoonful of honey, decoct until 0.5 cup remains, then take.)
Wang An stated: Forsythia, Mint, and Bamboo Leaves ascend and disperse upwards; Gardenia, Scutellaria, Mirabilite, and Rhubarb purge downwards. This causes the Qi to move up and down, clearing the diaphragm naturally. Adding Licorice and raw Honey addresses the location of the disease in the diaphragm, using the sweet flavor to relieve urgency. Zhang Jiegu reduced the dosage of Mirabilite and Rhubarb and added Balloon Flower Root (Platycodonis Radix) to make the herbs descend slowly, lingering in the upper diaphragm, which is quite ingenious.
Treats severe cramping pain in the heart and abdomen after childbirth that feels like death, or blood stasis clouding the mind causing unconsciousness, or retention of the placenta. ○ Also treats heart pain caused by blood stasis.
Shixiao San (Laughing Away Pain Powder) consists of Typha Pollen (Typhidis Pollen) and Trogopterus Dung (Trogopterori Faeces). (Equal parts of Typha Pollen and Trogopterus Dung, raw and ground into powder, take 3 qian per dose, decoct with wine, named Shixiao San.)
Dizziness subsides, pain stops, and accumulations dissipate without lingering. Add two liang of Hawthorn Fruit (Crataegi Fructus), along with infant urine and brown sugar. (Two liang of Hawthorn Fruit, decocted in water, taken with infant urine and brown sugar, named Dusheng San.)
Wu Yuxuan said: Trogopterus Dung is sweet and warm, entering the Liver channel; when used raw, it generates blood. Typha Pollen is acrid and neutral, entering the Liver channel; when used raw, it breaks blood. Using wine as an adjuvant enhances its power, allowing it to directly penetrate the stagnation of the Jueyin channel, achieving the effect of eliminating the old and generating the new. Sweetness does not harm the Spleen, and acridity disperses stasis. Thus, symptoms such as painful stasis, aversion to cold, fever, dizziness, chest fullness, and oppression are completely eliminated, allowing one to simply smile at them. As for Dusheng San, using only Hawthorn Fruit not only aids digestion and strengthens the Spleen but also breaks stasis and treats postpartum "child pillow" pain. Added with the sweetness of brown sugar, it warms the middle and expels lochia; the saltiness of infant urine enters the uterus without being cooling. They complement each other excellently, possessing great efficacy.
"Hua" (Slippery/Smooth) refers to moistening. It is expelled through the large intestine and is milder than purgative formulas.
