The eye is the supreme treasure of the body, capable of observing heaven and earth, shining with infinite radiance. People nowadays suffer from internal cataracts and blindness, or have nebulae (opacities on the cornea) accompanied by pain. Why is this? Tianzhen (referring to ancient sages or the physician's self-reference) says: People nowadays treat wine as if it were gruel, regard sexual indulgence as a daily routine, engage in intercourse while drunk, exhaust their essence through desires, and dissipate their true qi through alcohol. They do not know how to maintain fullness, frequently damage their spirit, and pursue only momentary pleasure, going against physiological laws. Their daily life lacks regulation; some are affected by wind-cold pathogens, while others exhaust their spirit and disperse their qi through overwork, leading to such conditions. The ancient sages taught their followers to rectify the mind to rectify the body, preserve yin and protect yang, harmonize tendons and vessels, solidify bone marrow, and ensure smooth flow of blood and qi. By following this method, desires will not fatigue the eyes, and licentious thoughts will not confuse the mind. With internal and external harmony, the ears and eyes naturally become clear and bright. Question: How can people nowadays, who cannot moderate themselves and lose proper regulation, be saved when diseases invade? Tianzhen replies: Around the human eye, there are eight acupoints (two sets of four). If red membranes develop, manual therapy can be applied. With one month of recuperation, darkness can be removed and vision restored, and those suffering from pain and blurred vision can recover. This method was applied widely, passed down through generations, and became commonly practiced. Only through sincere intention and clarity can one achieve the way of saving the world and helping people.

One should settle the body and regulate its protection. However, for those who cannot see light, even possessing thousands of gold pieces and jade to display wealth, or having golden ornaments and beautiful women to alleviate sorrow, what can they see?
Moreover, those who suffer from eye diseases nowadays do so because wind-cold pathogens enter the interior, and evil qi transmits between organs. Wind and blood circulate together; when wind qi is excessive and blood qi is abundant, nebulae form causing obstruction, pterygium invades the eyeball, various abnormal symptoms appear, pain occurs intermittently, and vision becomes unclear. For any such condition, medicinal treatment achieves only half the effect and cannot fully attain efficacy. Manual therapy must be used to remove the root cause, which is called knowing the source. The eyelid circumference is one inch and three fen, corresponding to the Theory of Five Wheels and Eight Liang, originating from the twelve meridians, and divided into multiple acupoints. If various ailments arise, one must carefully examine the source and treat accordingly. Where do these red veins originate? This is the root of eye disease. Is there still yin essence and brightness? Those who can treat it achieve the merit of saving people. Those who cannot will mistakenly damage the divine light, making recovery difficult. One must master secret essentials, understand the various acupoints, receive authentic transmission, and then achieve efficacy. This is the way of benefiting the world.
