Regardless of whether the syndrome is Yin or Yang, it guarantees remarkable efficacy. This prescription was transmitted with the signature and seal of Jiang Qianming.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Gange (Kudzu Root), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root).
The above herbs are divided into equal parts and ground into fine powder. The amount of Ganjiang may be reduced appropriately. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct until 0.8 zhan remains, add fresh ginger and jujube, and decoct together. It can be taken at any time. If sweating does not occur after ingestion, cover oneself with blankets and sleep for a short while; recovery occurs upon sweating!
Shengseng San (Holy Monk Powder) for treating epidemic qi and all types of cold damage, effective regardless of severity.
Wu Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (8 liang, washed, dried in shade, finely sliced), Gancao (Licorice Root) (4 liang, raw, cut).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, add 3 slices of fresh ginger, 1 broken jujube, 3 cun of scallion white, and 1 zhan of water. Decoct until 0.6 zhan remains. Take hot. Cover with blankets to induce sweating; the illness will heal. After the time it takes a person to walk five li, administer another dose to completely eliminate the pathogenic factor.
For treating cold damage where Yin and Yang syndromes are unclear, or when incorrect medication has led to severe weakness and near-death condition in the patient, this formula (Transmission One) can be taken even seven days after onset.
Select high-quality Renshen (Ginseng Root) 1 liang, remove the rhizome, slice thinly. Add 1 sheng of water and decoct in a silver or stone vessel until 1 zhan remains. Cool by immersing in newly drawn water. Consume the entire dose at once. Sweat will not emerge from other parts of the body but will only trickle like water droplets from the tip of the nasal bridge; this is the sign of therapeutic response, which is miraculous. Su Taoguang stated: The Abbot of the Vice Minister's residence once used this to save dozens of people. When I served as Magistrate of Qingliu, the daughter-in-law of Che Shentu Xingfu suffered from seasonal epidemic for over twenty days postpartum, developing a complex disorder. Upon hearing of this prescription, I advised her to take it.
For treating cold damage and epidemic qi, regardless of Yin or Yang syndromes, if one feels unwell initially, continuous administration of three doses leads to immediate recovery. Chancellor Ge had this printed on woodblocks and distributed freely, which was very effective.
Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (cut into dice-sized cubes, soaked overnight in rice washing water, drained, stir-fried with wheat bran until the bran turns reddish-brown, then sifted through a new coarse cloth bag to remove bran, retaining 1 jin of pure herb), Ben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix) (cleanly washed, sun-dried), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (not subjected to heat processing, each 4 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root) (2 liang, honey-fried).
Cut the above four herbs into coarse pieces. Take 3 da qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water and 3 slices of fresh ginger. Decoct until 0.8 zhan remains. Strain and take hot.
