Evodiae Fructus (picked and cleaned) and Coptidis Rhizoma (mustard roots and rhizome removed, cut into dice-sized pieces), taken in equal superior proportions, are soaked thoroughly together in good-quality wine. After removal, they are separately picked, baked or sun-dried, ground into fine powder, and made into pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds with rice paste. For red dysentery, administer with water, simultaneously accompanied by Gancao Ganjiang Tang (Licorice and Dried Ginger Decoction). This formula was transmitted by Chun Lao from Heshan in Western Zhejiang. Su Taoguang stated that it has saved countless lives over decades. Many people sought this prescription, but he dared not impart it lightly, fearing that people might neglect it due to the modesty of its ingredients. Whenever Taoguang used it to save people, the effect was very significant. Hong's medical formulas also contain similar preparation methods for decoction vehicles, with slight differences.
For heat and restlessness:
Grind half a sheng of Oryza sativa var. japonica (Jingmi, Paddy Rice) with water, extract the juice until completely exhausted. Place the juice in an earthenware jar with oil inside, seal with wax paper, sink it to the bottom of a well, and take it at dawn. The wet nurse in the household of Hanlin Academician Wu was ill; after taking this remedy, she recovered.
The Bozhai Bian records: An old man in the mountains of Shu treated dysentery using Papaveris Fructus (removing the core) and Rhois chinensis (Shuzhaizi), several pieces of each. These were baked dry, ground into powder, and taken with drink. It is especially effective for Jin Kou Li (Dysentery with inability to eat/drink). Shuzhaizi is also known as Tangqiu (Sugar Ball).
Chen Qingzhang, the Magistrate named Zuyong, said: Previously, when serving as an official in Nankang, his son, about ten years old, suffered from Jin Kou Li (Dysentery with inability to eat/drink), unable to take even water or broth for several days. A colleague's home had a medical book recording a treatment method. Upon trying it, one dose slightly relieved the dysentery; after three doses, he asked for porridge and drank, eating half a cup in one meal. Thus, the dysentery stopped and he became peaceful. The method uses half dried Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao, Yam) stir-fried until yellow, and half used raw, ground into fine powder, and taken mixed with rice water.
Two prescriptions for treating severe cases of bloody and white dysentery, transmitted by Jiao Jiqing.

The above are ground into powder, divided into three doses. Add one dan and a half of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, filter out the dregs, and take the liquid. Using Yingsuqiao is optional.
