罂粟壳去穣蒂，不以多少，用米醋一碗蘸炙，以醋多为妙，候焦黄为细末，炼蜜为丸，

鲫鱼一枚，不去鳞腮，下作一窍，去肠肚，入白矾一栗子大，纸裹煨，令香熟，令病患
取意用盐醋食之。季毅方烧存性灰，米饮调下，曾用之有效。

乳煎荜茇，《沈存中良方》云，每用牛乳半升，荜茇末二钱匕，同煎减半，空心服，仍
具载本末。
腊茶细末不以多少，白梅肉和为丸。赤痢，甘草汤下；白痢，乌梅汤下；泄泻不止，陈
米饮下。每服二十丸，团茶尤佳，白梅贵陈。
孟公实郎中传云甚妙。
石莲不以多少，不炒，剥去壳，将肉并心碾为细末，每服二钱，陈米饮调下，便觉思食。

祭酒林谦之说，韶州医人刘从周治病有功，议论殊不凡，且有验，云大凡痢疾，不问赤
白而后为冷热之症，若手足和暖，则为阳，只须先服五苓散，用粟米饮调下，次服感应丸二
十粒即愈；若觉手足厥冷，则为阴，当服暖药，如已寒丸附子之类，如此治痢无不效，此方
亲
并脏腑等疾，臧将仕之女服之有效。

The Dushen Pill (Single Spirit Pill) for treating dysentery is a prescription from Vice Minister Shen Taixu, transmitted by Shen Renfu.
Take *Papa ver somniferum* shell (Poppy Shell), remove the pith and stalks, quantity unspecified. Dip it in one bowl of rice vinegar for roasting; using more vinegar is better. Roast until scorched yellow, then grind into fine powder. Form pills with refined honey.
Size: small pellets.

Take one crucian carp (*Carassius auratus*), do not remove scales or gills. Make an incision underneath, remove intestines and viscera. Insert a piece of alum (*Alumen*) the size of a chestnut. Wrap in paper and roast/bake until fragrant and cooked. The patient should eat it at will with salt and vinegar. Ji Yi's method is to burn it to retain its nature (charcoalize), turn it into ash, and take it mixed with rice drink. It has been used effectively.
Recorded in *Taiping Guangji*, an effective prescription obtained by Emperor Taizong of Tang.
Decoct *Long Pepper* (*Piper longum*) with milk. According to *Shen Cunzhong's Good Prescriptions*, use half a sheng of beef milk and two qianbi of *Long Pepper* powder. Decoct together until reduced by half. Take on an empty stomach. The details are fully recorded.
Grind aged tea (*Lacha*) into fine powder, quantity unspecified. Mix with white plum meat to form pills. For red dysentery, take with licorice decoction; for white dysentery, take with dark plum decoction; for persistent diarrhea, take with aged rice drink. Dosage: twenty pills per administration. Round tea is especially good; white plums should be aged.

Take *Nelumbinis Semen* (Stone Lotus Seed/Embryo), quantity unspecified. Do not stir-fry. Peel off the hard shell. Grind the flesh and the heart together into fine powder. Dosage: two qian per administration, taken with aged rice drink. One will feel an appetite.
(This prescription) cured [the patient], who had previously self-medicated with dysentery remedies.
Jijiu Lin Qianshuo stated that Liu Congzhou, a physician from Shaozhou, was meritorious in treating diseases, his discussions were extraordinary and verified. He said that generally for dysentery, regardless of red or white, one must subsequently determine if it is a cold or heat syndrome. If hands and feet are warm, it is a Yang syndrome; simply take *Wuling San* (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) first, mixed with millet drink, followed by twenty *Ganying Wan* (Miracle Response Pills). It will cure. If hands and feet feel cold, it is a Yin syndrome; one should take warming medicines, such as *Yihan Wan* (Already Cold Pill) or *Aconitum* (Prepared Aconite Root). Treating dysentery this way is invariably effective. This prescription personally
was used for treating internal organ diseases, etc. Zang Jiangshi's daughter took it with effect.

Grind the above ingredients together into fine powder. Form pills with refined honey, size like a small chicken head. Dosage: ten or fifteen pills per administration. For red dysentery, take with licorice decoction; for white dysentery, take with dried ginger decoction; for diarrhea, take with rice drink. For children, make pills the size of millet grains, adjust dosage according to age and size.
