Treats wind-cold attack with fever and aversion to cold, where menstruation has just begun. After seven or eight days, the fever subsides, pulse becomes slow, body feels cool, but there is fullness in the chest and hypochondrium resembling Jie-xiong (chest binding) with high fever and delirium. This is Re Ru Xue Shi (Heat Entering the Blood Chamber). Needle Qimen (LR14) according to excess patterns. Qimen is located directly below the nipple, near the ribs and abdomen.
For this acupoint, in all women's diseases, it is standard to needle Qimen without using Zi-Wu Liu Zhu methods, to avoid entangling the organ membranes and drawing Qi upward. Simply insert the needle while the patient inhales five times, retain the needle for a long time, and manipulate slowly. This is the Ping-Xie (Neutral Draining) method.
When needling Qimen, always drain, never tonify. For obese individuals, depth is two cun; for thin individuals, one and a half cun. *Zisheng Jing* states: When postpartum cold damage persists beyond the meridian stage, needle Qimen to prevent transmission.
*Weisheng Baojian* records: A woman suffered from Heat Entering the Blood Chamber. The physician failed to recognize it and used blood-nourishing and regulating herbs for several days, resulting in Blood Jie-xiong.
Someone suggested using previous prescriptions. I said, "Xiao Chai Hu Tang was used too late and is ineffective. If forced, there is one alternative: needle Qimen." I am not skilled in acupuncture, so I asked a proficient practitioner to treat her. She recovered as instructed. Someone asked, "Why does Heat Entering the Blood Chamber form Jie-xiong?" I said, "Pathogenic factors enter the meridians and contend with healthy Qi, circulating up and down. If occurring during menstruation, pathogenic factors enter due to deficiency. The Blood Chamber is forced upward into the Liver Meridian. The Liver receiving pathogens causes delirium and hallucinations. The pathogen re-enters the [chest/diaphragm], causing blood to knot in the chest. Why? Normally, water nourishes Wood, and blood nourishes Spleen. Before conception, blood flows downward as menses; during pregnancy, it accumulates to nourish the fetus; after birth, it rises to become milk. All are blood. Now, pathogens chase blood, merging into the Liver Meridian, gathering in the [chest/diaphragm], knotting below the breasts. Thus, touch causes pain, and medicine cannot reach it. Therefore, needle Qimen."
