Acupoints of the Yellow Emperor for treating heat, totaling fifty-nine. On the head, there are five rows, with five acupoints in each row, referring to those along the Du Meridian (Governing Vessel): Shangxing (GV23), Xinhui (GV22), Qian Ding (GV21), Baihui (GV20), and Houding (GV19), totaling five acupoints forming one row. On each side, there is another row, referring to Wuchu (BL3), Chengguang (BL6), Tongtian (BL7), Luoque (BL8), and Yuzhen (GB9), two on each side, totaling ten acupoints. Further out on each side, there is another row, referring to Linqi (GB15), Mucuang (GB16 - text error "HT"), Zhengying (GB17), Chengling (GB18), and Naokong (GB20), two on each side, totaling ten acupoints. In total, twenty-five acupoints, used to disperse the rebellious heat of all Yang meridians. Dazhu (BL11), Ying Shu (Zhongfu LU1), Quepen (LI15), and Beishu (Fengmen BL12), these eight acupoints, are used to drain heat from the chest. Dazhu belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian; Ying Shu, which is Zhongfu (LU1), belongs to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian; Quepen is located on the shoulder and belongs to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian; Beishu, which is Fengmen (also known as Re Fu), belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Qijie (Stomach Meridian region), Sanli (ST36), Juxu Shanglian (ST37), and Juxu Xiaolian (ST39), these eight acupoints, are used to drain heat from the stomach. All eight acupoints belong to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. The Classics state: Yunmen (LU2), Gugu (likely Jianyu LI15 or similar, text unclear), Weizhong (BL40), and Suikong (Shushu points near Du Meridian), these eight acupoints, are used to drain heat of the four seasons. Yunmen relates to the Hand and Foot Taiyang meridians (Note: Textual inaccuracy, Yunmen is Hand-Taiyin); Gugu, which is Jianyu (LI15), is the intersection of the Hand-Yangming and Qi Mai meridians; Weizhong is in the center of the popliteal fossa and belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian; Suikong refers to the Shu points adjacent to the Five Zang organs along the Du Meridian (Note: Text is obscure, likely referring to Back-Shu points). These ten acupoints, are used to drain heat from the Five Zang organs. They refer to Pohu (BL42), Shentang (BL44), Hunmen (BL47), Yishe (BL49), and Zhishi (BL52), two on each side, totaling ten acupoints, belonging to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. The aforementioned fifty-nine acupoints on the head are all acupoints for treating heat; therefore, when suffering from heat disease, these are needled. There are also other methods for needling to treat heat: For Liver Heat, needle the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian; for Heart Heat, needle the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian; for Spleen Heat, needle the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian; for Lung Heat, needle the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian; for Kidney Heat, needle the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Whenever a heat disease has not yet manifested but redness appears on the face, it is a diagnosis of heat. Redness on the forehead indicates Heart Heat; on the chin, Kidney Heat; on the nose, Spleen Heat; on the left cheek, Liver Heat; on the right cheek, Lung Heat. Upon seeing redness, immediate needling is required. Carefully examine the Jing-River-Sea points distinctions. If in Yin meridians, tonify Yang and drain Yin; if in Yang meridians, tonify Yin and drain Yang. This is the general principle for treating heat. Besides the heat acupoints, there are other remaining methods, detailed below.
