[Supplementary Discussion]
The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: The origin of various diseases lies in the five Zang organs. The Lung governs Qi exclusively. Deficiency or excess of Qi, stemming from deficiency or excess syndromes respectively, results in different pathological manifestations.
If the Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) Qi fail to circulate smoothly, profuse sweating occurs. Fright causes the Heart Spirit to lack support, the Shen (Spirit) to have no refuge, and thoughts to remain unsettled, leading to chaotic Qi movement. Overexertion leads to panting and sweating, causing leakage of both internal essence and external defensive Qi, resulting in Qi consumption. Excessive thinking causes the mind to fixate on an object, causing Qi to stagnate and fail to move, leading to Qi knotting.
Qi Qi Wan (Seven Qi Pill, from *Qianjin Fang*) treats seven types of Qi disorders: Cold Qi, Heat Qi, Anger Qi, Resentment Qi (Qi of indignation), Joy Qi, Worry Qi, and Sorrow Qi.
Symptoms of Cold Qi: Vomiting and regurgitation, sensation of Heart Qi about to cease, dyspnea.
Symptoms of Resentment Qi: Severe distress, inability to sleep peacefully.
Symptoms of Sorrow Qi: Impairment of daily activities and movement.
This formula also treats residual conditions following postpartum wind-stroke.
Ingredients: Da Huang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma, 2.5 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) (each 2 fen).
Administration: Form into pills, take with wine.
Qi Qi Wan (also known as Wu Tou Wan, from *Qianjin Fang*) treats accumulation of seven Qi types that fails to dissipate, located in the hypochondrium and abdomen, forming a mass like a cup, with chest obstruction and persistent vomiting.
Ingredients: Wu Tou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Da Huang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma) (each 7 fen), Zi Wan (Adenophorae Radix), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Dan Shen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Xiong Duan (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Tao Ren (Persicae Semen), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma).
Administration: Honey-pilulated, size of Sophora seeds.
Qi Qi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction, from *Qianjin Fang*) treats Cold Qi, Heat Qi, Worry Qi, Labor Qi (Qi from overexertion), Joy Qi, Resentment Qi, and Anger Qi knotted in the diaphragm, causing loss of appetite.
Ingredients: Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [alternative: Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus)], Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber), Fen Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma processed with bran), Gua Lou (Trichosanthis Fructus) [alternative: Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium)], Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 3 fen).
Administration: Coarsely crush, decoct with one dou of water.
Si Qi Tang (Four Qi Decoction, also known as Da Qi Qi Tang, from *San Yin Fang*) treats Qi disorders caused by Joy, Anger, Sorrow, Thought, Worry, Fear, and Fright, which condense into phlegm-drool obstructing the throat like broken cotton, causing Qi stagnation and discomfort, or persistent phlegm that cannot be resolved. This is common among women after childbirth due to emotional injuries. It is suitable for this prescription. Even if the constitution is weak and large doses are not tolerated, it is effective and should not be underestimated.
Ingredients: Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, 5 liang), Fu Ling (Poria, 4 liang), Zi Su Ye (Perillae Folium, 1 liang), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 3 liang).
Administration: Coarsely crush, take 4 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water and 3 slices of fresh ginger, decoct to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take warm.
For white turbid urine, this medicine is most appropriate. For morning sickness in pregnancy, it can be used intermittently with Hong Wan (Red Pill), which is particularly suitable. This formula is named Hou Po Ban Xia Tang (Magnolia Bark and Pinellia Decoction), also known as Da Qi Qi Tang (Great Seven Qi Decoction). The Bureau Formula's Qi Qi Tang uses Ban Xia (5 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Guan Gui (Official Cinnamon Twig), and Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang), decocted with fresh ginger, primarily treating seven Qi disorders and severe heart/abdominal pain. However, its sweet taste may hinder its ability to relieve pain and regulate Qi. Another prescription for injury by the seven emotions, causing epigastric discomfort, impaired Qi ascent/descent, and abdominal/flank distension, uses Chao Xiang Fu (Stir-fried Cyperi Rhizoma, 0.5 jin), Ju Hong (Tangerine Red Peel, 6 liang), and Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang), decocted. This is excellent. One must not believe that Xiang Fu consumes Qi; rather, it greatly nourishes Blood and tonifies Qi. Alternatively, add Wei Mu Xiang (Roasted Aucklandiae Radix), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber), and Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang).
Ren Shen San (Ginseng Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats Worry, Resentment, Cold, Heat, Joy, and Anger, as well as dietary obstruction, internal injury to the five Zang organs, rebellious Qi attacking upward, and inability to eat.
Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove rhizome head), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 liang), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 1 liang), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1 liang), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 0.5 liang, soak in hot water seven times, dry-roast until slightly scorched), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang).
Administration: Coarsely crush, decoct with 1 zhan of water to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take warm.
Qi Qi Tang (from *Yifang Jicheng*) treats Cold Qi, Anger Qi, Resentment Qi, Joy Qi, and Sorrow Qi. Internal knotting of sorrow leads to firm accumulations like a cup, causing severe heart and abdominal pain.
Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, remove rhizome head), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and crushed, each 0.5 liang), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, soaked in hot water seven times, sliced, dried, 5 liang).
Administration: Coarsely crush, decoct with 1.5 zhan of water, 3 slices of fresh ginger, and 5 jujubes to 1 zhan, strain, and take hot. Named Tong Qi Tang (Unblocking Qi Decoction).
Qi Qi Tang (from *Danliao Fang*) treats interference among the seven emotions, causing failure of Yin and Yang to ascend and descend, Qi pathway obstruction, and attacking pain.
Ingredients: Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Peng E Zhu (Curcumae Phaeocaulis Rhizoma), La Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Huo Xiang (Agastachis Herba), Yi Zhi Ren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) (each 1 liang), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma, 1.5 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 3 fen).
Administration: Coarsely crush, decoct with 1.5 zhan of water and 3 slices of fresh ginger to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take hot.
Si Qi Tang (from *Baiyi Xuanfang*) treats seven types of Qi. Da Qi Qi Tang (Great Seven Qi Decoction) was effective when taken by Qian Wenzi.
Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria) (each 3 liang), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed with ginger juice, each 3.5 liang).
Administration: Coarsely crush, take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water and 3 slices of fresh ginger, decoct to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take hot.
Da Huang Wan (Rhubarb Pill, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats seven Qi disorders, firm accumulations, and abdominal distension/pain.
Ingredients: Chuan Da Huang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Chuan Jiao (Sichuan Pepper, 0.5 liang, remove eyes and closed ones, lightly stir-fried to remove moisture), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen, remove rhizome head), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, 3 fen, soaked in hot water seven times), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 fen), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 3 fen, soaked in hot water seven times).
Administration: Powder, honey-pilulated, size of Sophora seeds.
Ban Xia San (Pinellia Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats seven Qi disorders causing deficiency-cold in the Zang-Fu, rebellious Qi and labor-Qi in the heart/abdomen, and inability to eat.
Ingredients: Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, 1 liang, soaked in hot water seven times to remove acridity), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove rhizome head), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1 liang), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 2 liang, remove rough bark).
Administration: Powder, take 2 qian per dose, add 1 zhan of water and 3 slices of fresh ginger, decoct to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take warm.
Ban Xia San (Pinellia Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats seven Qi disorders, heart/abdominal accumulations forming masses like cups, vomiting with chills/fever, shortness of breath in the chest, and anorexia.
Ingredients: Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 1 liang), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove rhizome head), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), He Li Le Pi (Terminalia Chebula Pericarpium, 0.5 liang), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 0.5 liang, processed), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen, 0.5 liang), Xiang Zi (Costi Fructus, 0.5 liang).
Administration: Powder, take 2 qian per dose, add 1 zhan of water, decoct to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take slightly warm.
Bing Lang Tang (Areca Decoction, from *Qianjin Fang*) treats excess Qi resembling accumulation, inability to eat or breathe, full abdominal stabbing pain, and continuous diarrhea.
Ingredients: Bing Lang (Arecae Semen, 20 pieces), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 piece), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, 1 sheng), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Da Huang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria) (each 3 liang), Zi Wan (Adenophorae Radix).
Administration: Coarsely crush, decoct with one dou of water to obtain three sheng, divide into three doses. Interval between doses equals the time it takes a person to walk ten li. If there is a hard, stone-like mass, add Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 2 liang) and Fang Kui (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 2 liang). For Qi issues, add Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex, cut, 2 liang).
Bai Dou Kou San (White Cardamom Powder, from *Renzhai Zhizhi*) treats injury by seven Qi, stagnation in the chest/diaphragm, obstruction in the throat, distending pain in the epigastrium, belching with acid regurgitation, and inability to eat.
Ingredients: Bai Dou Kou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Suo Sha (Amomi Fructus), Bi Cheng Qie (Long Pepper Fruit), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried, 1 fen), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), La Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 2 fen), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex).
Administration: Powder, take 2 qian per dose, add 1 zhan of water, decoct to 0.8 zhan, strain, and take hot, regardless of timing.
Prescription for Qi Fullness, Obstruction, Anorexia, and Panting (from *Qianjin Fang*).
