Postpartum dysentery arises from labor injury during childbirth, leading to insufficiency of the Zang-Fu organs. If the postpartum period is not yet complete and the body's deficiency has not recovered, or if one engages in excessive labor too early, or mistakenly consumes raw and cold foods, this condition may occur.
If heat pathogens interact with food retention, postpartum dysentery accompanied by thirst occurs. This is because the essence from water and grain cannot transform into Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids to nourish the Zang-Fu organs. Consequently, the Zang-Fu organs become deficient and dry, resulting in both dysentery and thirst. If one drinks excessively at this time, it will be difficult to recover spontaneously. The ingested water mixes with the fluids in the intestines and flows down, thus forming pus-and-blood dysentery.
