As for hemiplegia (Pian Gu, paralysis of one side of the body), its manifestations may include coldness, numbness, flaccidity, or insensitivity to pain and itch. It is characterized by hemiplegia, withered and emaciated muscles, and pain in the bones. The mental state remains clear as if unaffected by wind pathogen; this is akin to a boat leaking water, representing the body leaking and being injured by wind. As the ancients said, "To treat wind diseases, first treat the blood; when blood flows freely, wind extinguishes itself." This is precisely the meaning. Treatment should first nourish the blood, then dispel wind, and there will be no case that does not heal. It is appropriate to use Da Ba Feng Tang (Great Eight Wind Decoction) with modifications. Yin Yu Jiu (Corydalis Wine) and Xu Duan Tang (Dipsacus Decoction) are indicated for this condition.
