[Diagram of Yunqi for Yichou Year]
Taiyin Shitu (Great Yin Damp Earth) governs the Si Tian (Heavenly Qi), and Taiyang Hanshui (Great Yang Cold Water) governs the Zai Quan (Earthly Qi). The Central Yun is Shaoshang Jin Yun (Lesser Shang Metal Movement). Since the year's Metal is insufficient, the Qi transformation operates later than the heavenly timing. Above, it meets Taiyin.
The Left Jian Qi (Intermediary Qi) is Yangming Zaojin (Bright Dry Metal).
(Coldness prevails.)
The grain of the intermediary period is named Taijiao grain; crops mature in late summer. In years of excess, high places are suitable; in years of deficiency, low places are suitable. In years of excess, harvest is late; in years of deficiency, harvest is early. This is the advantage of Earth and the transformation of Qi; the people's physiological Qi follows this pattern. Thus, Yin condenses above, and Cold accumulates below. Cold Water overcomes Fire.
In this year, Earth is the Heavenly Qi, and Water is the Earthly Qi. Earth can overcome Water. The Heavenly Qi is full, while the Earthly Qi is empty. However, the Central Yun is Metal. Heavenly Qi generates the Yun, and Yun generates the Earthly Qi. The three Qi interact harmoniously, leading to smooth transformation, so pathogenic factors are minimal. The Si Tian Qi is in excess. Due to the fullness of Heavenly Qi, one should select those from the source of transformation that are substantial to level the Earth Qi.
It is advisable to consume black grains to preserve true Qi, and grains of the intermediary Qi to protect essence. Use Bitter-Hot herbs to treat the upper part, Sweet-Hot herbs to treat the lower part, and Sour herbs to harmonize the middle. This serves to dry dampness and warm yang. If severe, employ diaphoresis or purgation. If neither is used, dampness will overflow externally, muscles will ulcerate, skin will crack, and water and blood will flow together. One must assist the Yang Fire to resist extreme cold. The Shaoshang Metal Yun corresponds with Cold transformation, so Hot transformation is appropriate. This is the proper method for medicine and diet. However, for Taiyin Si Tian Qi, since the Ben (Root) and Biao (Branch) are consistent, its transformation follows the Root, and its Qi is dominant.
Before the midpoint of the year, if seasonal rains arrive on time, it indicates harmony of Heavenly Administration manifesting as Rain transformation. If Dampness prevails excessively, heavy Yin spreads, and rain causes withering.
(Sour and Pungent flavors are indicated.)
After the midpoint of the year, the Earthly Qi is governed by Taiyang. Its transformation follows both Root and Branch. At this time, if Cold and Warmth are moderate, it signifies that both Root and Branch transformations are responding appropriately. If Cold...
(Sweet-Hot flavor is indicated.)
Metal Yun being deficient is called Congji Ji (Record of Following Change). Its movement manifests as Cool, Hot, and Cold alternations. If Summer has bright and oppressive steaming conditions, Winter will have strict and solemn responses. If Summer has...

Consume rice to preserve essence. Even if Wind transformation occurs, it cannot become pathogenic.
Second Qi starts from Mao Zheng (mid-Mao hour) on Spring Equinox day to Chou Zheng (mid-Chou hour) on Grain Full day. Total: slightly more than 60 days. Main Position is Shaozheng Fire, Guest Qi is Shaoyin Jun Fire, Central Yun is Metal. The year's Metal is deficient, matching Shaozheng. Furthermore, Fire occupies its proper position. The Qi of Jun Fire must rely on virtue-based transformation. Thus, the Great Fire is in command, objects receive transformation, and the people are peaceful. Epidemic febrile diseases prevail widely, affecting all distances. Dampness and steaming contend, and rain descends timely.
