The nature of *Rushi* (mineral drugs) is originally fiery and fierce. If those who take them fail to regulate their lifestyle properly or eat and drink at irregular times, heat toxins will erupt without a specific outlet. This may manifest as back carbuncles (*Fobei*) or early-stage intestinal abscesses (*Changyong*).

Wumingyi Paste (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncle toxins and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs.
Ingredients: Wumingyi (ground), Moyao (ground), Shexiang (ground), Tanxiang (chopped), Dansha (ground), Chenxiang (chopped), Qilinjie (ground), Ruxiang (ground), Danggui (sliced and baked), Sangzhi (chopped), Sanggenbaipi (chopped). All ingredients except Dansha are chopped and ground into powder. Mix with willow ash juice and red beet juice to form a paste for external application.

Hongcaitou Paste (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and sores caused by the eruption of mineral drugs. It relieves pain and promotes tissue regeneration.
Ingredients: Hongcaitou (3 liang), Shengdihuang, Zhizhi (each 3 liang), Daji (stir-fried, 1 liang), Danggui (sliced and baked), Xuduan, Baizhi, Chuanxiong (each appropriate amount), Sanggenbaipi (appropriate amount), Huangqi (stir-fried if closed-mouthed, "han" removed). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take an appropriate amount, decoct in water, filter dregs, add Zhizhi and Beelax (beeswax), and boil into a paste.

Bixiao Paste (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles, back carbuncles, and toxic sores caused by the eruption of mineral drugs. It relieves pain and drains pus.
Ingredients: Mazu (sesame oil, 1 jin), Qiandan (ground, 1 qian), Shexiang (ground, 1 qian), Nifen (ground), Bixie (beeswax, each 3 fen), Fengxiangzhi (1.5 liang), Dansha (finely ground, 0.5 liang), Yan (salt, 0.5 liang), Baizhi (chopped), Ruxiang (ground), Danggui (roasted and chopped), Guizhi (bark removed and chopped), Chuanxiong (chopped). The above six flavors are chopped. Heat the oil, add Qiandan, stir until smoke ceases, then add other ingredients and boil into a paste.

Mendongtang (Ophiopogon Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, accompanied by fever and thirst.
Ingredients: Mendongren (heart removed and baked), Chi Fuling (black skin removed), Shigao (ground), Shengdihuang (baked), Shengma, Renshen, Zhimu (baked), Shanzhiren, Gancao (roasted), Huangqin (each 1 liang), Shengjiang (5 slices). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, and taken warm.

Huangqi Tang (Astragalus Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, characterized by internal heat and severe thirst.
Ingredients: Huangqi (roasted and chopped), Qianhu (radicle removed), Dahuang (chopped and stir-fried, each 1.5 liang), Gualougen (2 liang), Mutong (chopped), Huangqin (black heart removed), Shengdihuang (sliced). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, and taken warm.

Huangqi San (Astragalus Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats carbuncles and swellings caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, accompanied by irritability, severe pain, high fever, dry mouth, mental restlessness, and difficult urination and defecation.
Ingredients: Huangqi (chopped), Chuan Shengma, Huangqin (each 1 liang), Xijiaoxie, Huangbai (lightly roasted), Xuanshen, Chi Fuling, Danggui, Gancao (raw, 0.5 liang), Chuan Dahuang (chopped). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in 1 cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm.

Lianqiao San (Forsythia Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats toxic eruptions causing carbuncles and swellings due to mineral drugs, accompanied by irritability, heat, pain, dry mouth, mental restlessness, muscle spasms, and stiffness of the head and neck.
Ingredients: Lianqiao, Huangqi (chopped), Chuan Shengma, Gegen (chopped), Digupi, Mendongren (heart removed), Xijiaoxie, Huangqin (each 3 fen), Muxiang (1 fen). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in 1 cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm.

Xijiao Wan (Rhino Horn Pill) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, dispelling all toxic vapors, relieving pain, and resolving pus.
Ingredients: Xijiaoxie (1 liang), Dahuang (sliced and baked), Huangqin (black heart removed), Shengma, Fangfeng (forks removed), Danggui (sliced and baked), Renshen, Huangqi (roasted and chopped to fine pieces). Except for Shexiang, the above ingredients are pounded and sifted into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose with warm water.

Huangqi Wan (Astragalus Pill) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, addressing all heat toxins and malignant sores.
Ingredients: Huangqi (roasted and chopped), Xijiaoxie (each 1.5 liang), Huanglian (must remove radicles), Fushen (wood removed), Danggui (sliced and baked), Fangfeng (forks removed), Shaoyao, Shexiang (ground), Shengjiang (sliced). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose with warm water.

Linxi Fang (Douching Formula) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats fever caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, where swelling is about to begin.
Usage: Use 7 Shiyanzi stones, coarsely pounded and sifted. Decoct in 3 sheng of water until 2 sheng remain. Frequently douche the swollen area until healed. Avoid contact with filth, as it will worsen the condition.

Treating Five Toxins Back Carbuncle (from *Ben Cao*)
Usage: Use Jinxingcao, wash clean including roots, dry slowly over low fire, weigh 4 liang, add 1 qian of raw Gancao, pound into powder, divide into four doses. Each dose is decocted with 1 sheng of wine.

Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang (Five-Aromatic Forsythia Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, various swelling toxins, and malignant lymph node swellings (*Eluo*).
Ingredients: Lianqiao (stalks removed), Muxiang, Chenxiang, Xunluxiang (Ruxiang, ground), Shexiang (ground), Shegan, Shengma, Duohuo (radicle removed), Sangjisheng, Sheng Gancao (equal parts). Except for Shexiang, the above ingredients are coarsely pounded, sifted, and mixed. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct in 2 zhan of water until 1.5 zhan remain, filter, add 2 fen of Zhulv (bamboo sap), boil again, and take warm.

Wuweizi Tang (Schisandra Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs.
Ingredients: Wuweizi (stir-fried), Qianhu (radicle removed), Danggui (sliced and baked), Huangqi (roasted and chopped), Renshen (each 1 liang), Xiaomai (1 ge), Huangqin (each 0.5 liang), Sheng Gancao (0.5 liang). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, and taken warm.

Xijiao San (Rhino Horn Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, accompanied by mental restlessness, dry mouth, stiffness of shoulders and back, and pain in limbs.
Ingredients: Xijiaoxie (3 fen), Chuan Shengma, Huangqi (chopped), Xuanshen, Qini, Mendongren (heart removed), Digupi, Muxiang (each 1 liang). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct in 1 cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm.

Xuanshen San (Scrophularia Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats irritability and painful carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs.
Ingredients: Xuanshen, Huangqin, Weirui (Polygonatum odoratum), Digupi, Zhiziren, Lianqiao (each 3 fen), Zixue (2 liang), Chuan Shengma, Chenxiang, Chuan Dahuang (equal parts). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in 1 medium cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm.

Zengsun Danggui Tang (Modified Angelica Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, accompanied by swelling, pain, irritability, and heat.
Ingredients: Danggui (sliced and baked), Chi Fuling, Renshen, Qianhu (radicle removed), Huangqin (black heart removed), Shaoyao, Gancao (roasted and chopped, each 1 liang), Xiaomai (1 ge). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, and taken warm.

Xijiao Tang (Rhino Horn Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats early detection of boils on the skin due to the eruption of mineral drugs, fearing progression to carbuncles, as well as organ stagnation, chills, fever, and dry mouth.
Ingredients: Xijiao (shaved), Zhimu (chopped, each 0.5 liang), Mutong (chopped), Shaoyao, Shengma, Qini, Mendongren (heart removed and baked), Huangqin (black heart removed). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, add 0.5 he of Zhulv (bamboo sap), and take warm.

Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and deficiency-heat caused by the eruption of mineral drugs.
Ingredients: Renshen, Gancao (roasted and chopped), Huangqi (roasted and chopped), Shaoyao (each 1.5 liang), Danggui (sliced and baked), Chi Fuling (black skin removed), Chuanxiong (chopped), Shengdihuang (sliced). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, and taken warm.

Loulu Tang (Euphorbiae Humifusae Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs.
Ingredients: Loulu (radicle removed), Bailian (chopped), Huangqin (black heart removed), Zhike (pulp and bran removed, stir-fried with flour), Shaoyao, Gancao (roasted and chopped), Mahuang (roots and joints removed). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water until 1 zhan remains, filter, and take warm.

Shengma San (Cimicifuga Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats carbuncles caused by heat toxins from the eruption of mineral drugs, accompanied by swelling, pain, dry mouth, and mental oppression.
Ingredients: Chuan Shengma, Zhike (pulp and bran removed, stir-fried until yellow), Huangqin, Gancao (raw and chopped), Chi Shaoyao, Danggui (each 1 liang), Muxiang (3 fen), Chuan Dahuang (chopped). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in 1 cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm. Three to four times daily, stop when bowel movement occurs.

Daqing San (Isatis Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats carbuncles and swellings caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, accompanied by irritability, heat, pain, dry mouth, and mental restlessness.
Ingredients: Daqing (3 fen), Ku Zhuye (30 leaves), Shigao (1 liang), Digupi, Gancao (raw and chopped), Huangqin, Xijiaoxie, Wulan (amount not specified). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in 1 cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm.

Duohuo San (Angelica Pubescens Powder) (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*), treats carbuncles with red swelling caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, toxic invasion, muscle spasms, slurred speech, and mental restlessness.
Ingredients: Duohuo, Chuan Shengma, Huangqin (each 3 fen), Han Fangji, Xijiaoxie, Fangfeng (radicle removed), Gancao (raw and chopped, each 0.5 liang), Shigao (small amount). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in 1 cup of water until 0.7 cups remain, filter, and take warm. Three to four times daily.

Dahuang Tang (Rhubarb Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, promoting the discharge of toxic vapors.
Ingredients: Dahuang (chopped and stir-fried, 1 liang), Zhiziren, Xijiaoxie (each 0.5 liang), Gualougen (2 liang), Shengma, Huangqin (black heart removed), Gancao (roasted and chopped). The above ingredients are chopped, decocted in water, filtered, and taken warm.

Maren Wan (Hemp Seed Pill) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats carbuncles and back carbuncles caused by the eruption of mineral drugs, as well as organ stagnation.
Ingredients: Dama Ren (ground, 2 liang), Muxiang (3 fen), Zhike (pulp and bran removed, stir-fried), Dahuang (chopped and stir-fried, each 1 liang), Gancao (roasted, 0.5 liang), Eshi (Burdock fruit, stir-fried). The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take with warm water.

Dihuang Jian (Rehmannia Decoction/Concentrate), mainly tonifies deficiency and clears heat, dissipating heat toxins from carbuncles, sores, and boils caused by mineral drugs.
Usage: Extract juice from fresh Shengdihuang according to quantity. Boil in a copper bowl over double boiler. Do not cover the pot to allow steam to escape. Boil until half the liquid remains. Filter through new cloth to remove coarse residue. Boil down to concentrate. If the swelling has a root, is hard as iron-stone, and purple-red in color, after taking the decoction, moxa cones should be applied directly to the swelling, 2-3 cones daily. Nursing care follows normal methods.

Manjingzi Gao (Turnip Seed Paste) (from *Qianjin Fang*), treats general eruptions of sores and swellings.
Ingredients: Manjingzi (stir-fried), Xingren, Huanglian, Hufen (each 1 liang), Shuiyin (mercury, 2 liang). Pound Manjingzi and Xingren separately into pastes. Combine with Zhizhi (pig fat) and boil.

Formula for Red Swelling Eruptions (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Ingredients: Shengdihuang (5 liang), Dahuang (1 liang), Sheng Shanglu (3 liang), Xingren (40 kernels). Chop the herbs, soak in vinegar overnight. Boil in 1 sheng of pig fat until charred. Take three times during the day and once at night.

Longkui San (Nightshade Powder) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats black sores and swellings caused by the eruption of mineral drugs.
Ingredients: Longkuigen (a handful, washed and finely cut), Ruxiang (ground), Huanglian (radicles removed, each 3 liang), Xingren (skin and tip removed, 60 kernels with two embryos). Finely chop the herbs, mix with ground medicines to form a fine powder. If the sore has a head and spreads around, form a cake thick as 3-4 qian, sized to fit the sore. After the sore breaks, if it is red, it indicates heat; do not use Longkuigen, substitute with Manjinggen (turnip root). After healing black sores, only eat pork, fish, scallions, and garlic; never eat sheep blood for life, or it will recur.

Another Formula (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Ingredients: Gancao (1 jin 2 liang, chopped), Damai (3 sheng), Huanglian (radicles removed, 2 liang). Pound and sift. Mix with boiling water to form cakes, apply to sores. Replace when dry.

Shengdihuang Jian (Fresh Rehmannia Concentrate) (from *Shengji Zonglu*), treats fever caused by mineral drug qi, combined with wind-heat, leading to chronic carbuncles and sores that do not heal for years.
Ingredients: Shengdihuang (5 jin, washed, chopped, pounded in mortar, juice extracted), Huangjing (12 jin, washed, chopped, pounded in mortar, juice extracted), Baimi (white honey, 5 sheng). Combine and boil slowly.

Treating mental restlessness, shoulder/back stiffness, painful carbuncles, and large intestine stagnation caused by mineral drug eruption (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*)
Ingredients: Huanglian (radicles removed), Chuan Mangxiao (each 1 liang). Sift into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with boiled Glycine max soup. Take three to four times daily.

Another Formula (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*)
Ingredients: Huanglian (3 liang, radicles removed), Kushen (3 liang, chopped), Huangqin (3 liang). Pound and crush, divide into three doses. Each dose decocted in 2 sheng of water until 1 sheng remains.

Formula for Carbuncles Caused by Taking Sulfur Alone (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*)
Usage: Grind fermented soybeans (chi) with strong vinegar into a paste, apply to the carbuncle. Replace when dry. Very effective.

Formula for Unbearable Pain from Mineral Drug Carbuncles (from *Tai Ping Hui Fang*)
Usage: Pounce Huashi (talcum) into fine powder, mix with water, apply to the swollen area. Reapply when dry.

Another Formula (from *Shengji Zonglu*) Regarding Back Carbuncles: Back carbuncles often start like millet grains between the shoulder blades, causing pain or itching, leading to death within days. At the critical stage, they may be 3 cun wide and 1 cun high, with multiple holes. Pressing any hole causes pus to exude from all. Upon initial appearance, quickly take pure soil, mix with water to make mud, shape into a cake 2 fen thick and 1.5 cun wide. Apply a large moxa cone on top of the mud cake and moxibustion for 100 cones. Replace the cake when dry. Also take Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang and Tiejiang (iron rust solution) to attack the toxin. For back carbuncles not yet suppurated heavily, use cold stone compresses cooled in water to apply to the area for relief.
