The Liver corresponds to Wood. The Kidney is its Mother (the generating organ), the Heart is its Child (the drained organ), the Spleen is its Peer (same qi), and the Lung is its Master (controlling organ). When disease occurs in the Liver, various syndromes manifest in the eyes, hypochondrium, fingers and toes, sinews, and blood. These are all diseases arising from Qi stagnation and Blood stasis. Thus, they originate. The Liver opens into the eyes; the eyes are the external manifestation of the Liver, and the essence of the Five Zang organs all ascend and pour into the eyes.
The Lung governs the essence of flesh, acting as the constraint, and belongs to the Spleen. The essence of sinews, bones, flesh, blood, and Qi, along with the vessels, form the meridian system, which connects upward to the brain, emerges posteriorly at the neck, and midway connects to... The Heart corresponds to Fire. The Liver is its Mother, the Spleen is its Child, the Lung is its Peer, and the Kidney is its Master. The Qi of the Heart is interconnected, such as the tongue and blood vessels... chest hair... root of the tongue... curling and contraction... treatment... face... pulse... then... unblocked...
If all Zang organs are diseased and the Xuan Mai (hanging pulse) is severed, this is a sign of impending death.
The Spleen corresponds to Earth. The Heart is its Mother, the Lung is its Child, the Kidney is its Peer, and the Liver is its Master. The climate and Qi of the Spleen are interconnected, such as the lips, mouth corners, chin, and throat gate... fluids in the five... irritability... disease must... with Spleen... all... Spleen... When Blood is depleted, it becomes deep and lacks color. Speaking from the perspective of meridian interconnection: the Hand Yangming Meridian runs alongside the mouth and circles the lips; the Foot Yangming Meridian also runs alongside the mouth and circles the lips; the Foot Jueyin Meridian circulates inside the lips. All these three meridians, some ascending from below, some descending from above, circle around the lips. Elder Pang said: If meridians are reversed, Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) do not flow smoothly, Yin and Yang reverse their positions, internal and external injuries are linked, leading to emaciation and weakness. Trismus (lockjaw) and black lips indicate an untreatable condition. He also stated that fearful voices, curled and shortened tongues indicate Wood overcoming Earth, Yang tied to Yin, Yin suppressing Yang. When Yang rises, it becomes Excess; Excess generates Heat; Heat causes restlessness and heaviness. Yellow lips and hoarse voices indicate an untreatable condition. The *Nan Jing* states: When the Qi of the Foot Taiyin Meridian ceases, the vessels cannot nourish the mouth and lips. The lips are the root of the muscles. If vessels do not nourish, muscles lose smoothness and luster. If muscles lack smoothness, they become distended. If muscles are distended, the lips evert. If lips evert, muscle tissue dies first. On Jia days, the condition worsens; on Yi days, death occurs. The *Zhong Zang Jing* states: In any disease, if the lips appear alternately dry and black, death ensues.
The Lung corresponds to Metal. The Spleen is its Mother, the Kidney is its Child, the Liver is its Peer, and the Heart is its Master. The Lung is the upper cover of the Five Zang organs and governs all Qi... respiration... calculation of one... five Qi... and conversely... causing the nose... all... In Lung disease, the skin hurts, there is a sensation of cold and heat like shivering, upper body asthma, and spontaneous sweating. The *Ling Shu* states: The thickness of the Large Intestine can be verified by the skin. Thick skin indicates a thick Large Intestine; thin skin indicates a thin Large Intestine. Hot skin corresponds to the Lung; cold skin corresponds to the Large Intestine. This is because the Lung governs the skin, and the Large Intestine corresponds to the skin. The *Nan Jing* states: When the Qi of the Hand Taiyin Meridian ceases, the skin and hair become scorched. Scorched skin leads to loss of Jin Ye (Body Fluids). Loss of Body Fluids damages the skin joints. Damaged skin joints lead to dry skin and broken hair. Dry skin and broken hair mean the hair dies first. On Bing days, the condition worsens; on Ding days, death occurs. Whenever the true pulses of the Five Zang organs appear, the complexion lacks luster, and hair breaks; this signifies death.
The Kidney corresponds to Water. The Lung is its Mother, the Liver is its Child, the Heart is its Peer, and the Spleen is its Master. What the Kidney governs includes essence, marrow, bones, brain, waist, teeth, spine anteriorly... the Kidney... governs sound... conjunction... cou li (interstices)... movement with pain... humans receive... and... teeth change... more hair growth... naturally able... also... The *Nei Dan Jue* states: The Ren and Du meridians are the seas of Yin and Yang for the whole body, the source of the True Yuan of the Five Qi, serving as the critical opportunity.
