The condition known as "Du Ru" (Jealous Breast / Milk Stagnation) arises when, after recent childbirth, the infant is unable to suckle, or when breastfeeding occurs but milk drainage is incomplete, or upon weaning, residual milk is not fully expressed. All these factors cause milk accumulation, which clashes with blood and qi, resulting in high fever, extreme thirst with a desire to drink, hardness and rigidity of the breast with pulling pain, and tenderness such that the hand cannot bear to touch it. Upon initial sensation of discomfort, one should manually assist in squeezing out the milk and have an assistant help suckle and drain it. If this is not done, sores may form with pus; if the heat spreads vigorously, an abscess (Yong) will develop. The *Qianjin Fang* states: After childbirth, one should frequently express milk and not allow it to accumulate. If not removed, it will coagulate and fail to exit. Evil fluids remain inside, drawing in heat and causing warmth and fever. Coagulation leads to hardness and pulling pain, extreme thirst with a desire to drink, breast urgency and pain, and inability to touch it, forming Du Ru rather than an abscess. Urgently moxa both Yuji points (LI10) on the hands, fourteen burns each, to cut off the formation of an abscess. This way, there is no longer aversion to others approaching, and milk will naturally flow out, leading to recovery.

**For cases where the infant does not suckle, or the mother has lost the infant and no one suckles, causing milk accumulation and non-excretion, leading to lump formation on the breast**, this formula is suitable (from *Shenghui Fang*).
Use 2 he of Red Adzuki Beans (Chixiaodou), crush and sieve into powder. Mix with egg white and apply to the breast to resolve the lump. If the infant sucks but milk does not drain, boil [some remedy] and squeeze it out. Alternatively, have an adult hold cold water in their mouth to suckle the milk out, then spit it out.
