Shanghan disease causing sores in the mouth and tongue is due to heat accumulating in the Spleen, steaming upwards to the mouth and tongue. Alternatively, it may result from excessive sweating, vomiting, or purging during winter treatment, leading to a severe loss of body fluids and deficiency in both the exterior and interior. If the heat pathogen persists, toxic factors attack the Upper Jiao, causing erosion and sores inside the mouth. Another view states that if sweating methods are misused for Shanghan in winter, it inevitably leads to vomiting and diarrhea, resulting in rotting and sores in the mouth.
