Neihuang (Internal Yellowing) is caused by heat-toxin qi stagnating in the Spleen and Stomach, clashing with the qi of food and grain. The heat steams internally without being able to disperse outward. Initially, it presents with distension and fullness in the heart and abdomen, along with rapid breathing.
Formulas for Treating Neihuang:
Zizhiren (Gardenia Seed), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each 1 liang); Gualugen (Trichosanthis Radix), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, prepared by stir-frying), Mangxiao (Mirabilite) (each 1 liang); Longdan (Gentian Root) (0.5 liang).
Yinchen San (Artemisiae Scopariae Powder) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Neihuang. Symptoms include yellowing of the body, face, and eyes, resembling gold color; urine resembles thick cypress juice; other physicians are unable to cure it.
Ingredients: Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) (2 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Longdan (Gentianae Radix), Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium, white pith removed and stir-fried until yellow), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) (each 1 liang); Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (3 liang).
Sanhuang San (Three-Yellow Powder, also known as Sanhuang Wan) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Neihuang. Symptoms include yellowing of the entire body. It is suitable to take this formula.
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, whiskers removed), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 2 liang). Grind into powder. Each dose is taken by mixing with warm water and swallowing 2 qian. Another method uses honey to form pills.
Another formula for treating Neihuang:
Take 2 liang of Liu Zhi (Willow Branch), chop it finely. Add 1.5 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Take warm at any time.
Yet another formula:
Take 1 liang of Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), chop it finely. Add 1 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Take warm at any time.
Yet another formula:
Take one large Huangguolou (Trichosanthis Fructus). Soak in 1.5 sheng of fresh well-water, crush and squeeze out the juice. Add 0.5 he of honey and 3 fen of fine powder, grind thoroughly and mix evenly. Divide into doses.
