It is stated that there are thirty-six types of jaundice. Although the recorded names and numbers are the same, the clinical manifestations vary. None of these can be compared to Huangdan (Jaundice, a disease caused by damp-heat accumulation in the liver and gallbladder, characterized primarily by yellowing of the eyes, body, and urine). Seeking verification in classical texts yields no definitive reference.
The patient's face is red, mouth open, with panting, frequent惊startle, and excessive sleepiness. The hands and feet are painful and vexed. Sores appear on the tongue. There is urgency and stifling sensation in the epigastrium. There is a lack of desire for food. The tongue is retracted, and the mouth is dry.
