Consuming hot-natured food agitates the Lung Qi, causing heat to gather in the interstices of the lungs. If the pathogenic heat does not dissipate and cold water is subsequently ingested, the cold and heat pathogens contend with each other. This results in Qi stagnation that fails to circulate freely, making the body susceptible to invasion by Cold pathogens.
*Gu Jin Lu Yan* records: General Li once suffered from an asthma-like disorder (Xuan Xi Bing), characterized by severe difficulty in breathing and frequent upward rushing of Qi (Shang Qi). Despite treatment, his condition did not improve, and he eventually died. The root cause was related to eating cakes... [The text here appears incomplete or fragmented].
Formula 1: San Wei Bei Ji San (Three-Ingredient Emergency Preparation Powder, from *Sheng Hui Fang*), treats sudden onset of Qi rebellion with panting and wheezing, where respiration is difficult and Qi flow is obstructed. Recovery is indicated by successful bowel evacuation.
Herbs: Radix Crotonis Preparata (Badou), Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (Ganjiang), Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang). All three herbs are used in equal proportions. The Radix Crotonis Preparata (Badou) is lightly roasted, and its heart and skin are removed. The ingredients are mixed, pounded, and sifted into a powder. Take half a qian; if bowel movement occurs, the patient will recover. Avoid wild boar meat and Asparagus cochinchinensis (Lusun).
Formula 2: San Wei Gua Di San (Three-Ingredient Melon Seed Powder), treats upward rushing of Qi with panting and wheezing.
Herbs: Fructus Momordicae (Gua Di, 3 fen), Herba Sinosenecionis (Duheng, 3 fen), Radix Ginseng (Renshen, 1 fen). The three herbs are ground into a powder. Administer one qian with warm water; reduce the dose for the elderly and children.
Formula 3: Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder, from *Sheng Hui Fang*), treats Qi rebellion and chest fullness caused by consuming hot food and drinking cold water. It also addresses retained fluid in the epigastrium that fails to disperse, resulting in deficiency-type panting, irritability, and loss of appetite.
Herbs: Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 1 liang), Cortex Cinnamomi (Guixin, 3 fen), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chen Jupi, 3 fen, soaked in water, white pith removed, and dried), Radix Alismatis (Zexie), Pericarpium Chebulae (Helile Pi, each 3 liang). The herbs are ground into a powder.
Formula 4: Chen Jupi San (Aged Tangerine Peel Powder, from *Sheng Hui Fang*), treats Qi rebellion and chest fullness with loss of appetite due to consuming hot food and drinking cold water.
Herbs: Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chen Jupi, 3 fen, soaked in water, white pith removed, and dried), Radix Alismatis (Zexie, 0.5 liang), Poria Cum Ramo Quercus Rubra (Chifuling, 5 liang), Radix Ginseng (Renshen, 3 fen, rhizome removed), Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 3 fen), Rhizoma Pinelliae (Banxia, peeled, tip removed, using double-kernel varieties, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow), Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Shengjiang, 0.5 fen). Decoct the ingredients, strain, and drink the liquid while still warm in one dose.
Formula 5: Wuzhuyu Wan (Evodia Pill, from *Sheng Hui Fang*), treats Qi rebellion and chest fullness caused by excessive consumption of hot food and cold water.
Herbs: Fructus Evodiae (Wuzhuyu, 3 fen, soaked in water seven times, dried, and lightly stir-fried until yellow), Radix Alismatis (Zexie), Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu), Poria Cum Ramo Quercus Rubra (Chifuling, each 3 fen), Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum (Muxiang, 0.5 liang), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride (Qing Jupi)... Form pills the size of Chinese wolfberry seeds.
Formula 6: Treats "Zou Ma Da Ben" (a term describing a rapidly progressing condition akin to a galloping horse), characterized by panting, thirst, desire to drink cold water, leading to Qi rebellion and fever. (From *Sheng Hui Fang*)
Herbs: Folium Bambusae (Zhuye, 3 jin, alternatively 3 liang), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Jupi, 2 liang, sliced). Add one dou of water, decoct to obtain three sheng, strain, and divide into three doses, taken twice daily.
Another Formula:
Herbs: Semen Lepidii et Descurainiae (Tingli, 1 liang, crushed and roasted), Fructus Jujubae (Dazao, 40 pieces, split). Add three sheng of water, decoct the jujubes to obtain one sheng of liquid, add the Semen Lepidii et Descurainiae (Tingli), and decoct further to obtain five ge. For adults... [Text ends]
