[Ren Xu Year Climate Diagram]
Taiyang Cold Water governs the Heaven (Si Tian), Taiyin Damp Earth resides in the Earth (Zai Quan), and the middle manifestation is Taijiao Wood Movement. The Wood movement of the year is excessive; its Qi transformation operates ahead of time. Taiyang represents the Heavenly Qi.
Left:
Cold descends upon the Great Void. Its administration is grand and vigorous, thus Fire erupts awaiting its time, Shaoyang governs in the middle, seasonal rains cease here. Clouds face the North Pole, Dampness is distributed, moisture flows to all things.
The degree of Cold transformation is six, Wind transformation is eight, Rain transformation is five; these are the degrees of correct transformation. Scaled creatures remain still, Feathered creatures breed; this is the suitability of all things. Scaled creatures do not mature, Dryness toxins do not arise; this is because Earthly Qi controls them. Cold spreads above, Thunder moves below. Cold-Damp Qi holds at the intersection of Qi. The people suffer from cold-heat alternating fevers, muscle atrophy, flaccidity of the legs unable to grasp, loose diarrhea with overflow of blood (hematochezia or hematuria).
In this year, Water is the Heavenly Qi, Earth is the Earthly Qi. Earth overcomes Water; one should nourish the source of transformation to assist the Heavenly Qi. Furthermore, encountering a Wood movement year, Wood can control Earth, allowing Earthly Qi to be preserved.
Medicines:
Before the midpoint of the year, Taiyang presides. Excessive Cold causes Cold Qi to arrive, water freezes, blood changes within, manifesting as carbuncles and sores. The people suffer from Jue-ni (cold reversal) and heart pain.
After the midpoint of the year, Taiyin presides. Excessive Dampness within causes dust and haze in valleys, yellow color appears reversed as black; this is the intersection of Extreme Yin.
The people suffer from fluid retention (Yin Zi), heart pain, deafness, dizziness (Hun Hun), swollen throat and bi-syndrome (obstruction), lower abdominal swelling and pain, Qi rushing causing headache, and pain in the eyes, neck, waist, and thighs. The method should treat with bitter-hot substances, assisted by sour substances. Cang Qi reaches... its movement... its insects... therefore... suddenly... First Qi: From Shen hour on the day of Da Han (Major Cold) in Xin You year to Wu hour on the day of Chun Fen (Spring Equinox) of this year, totaling 60 days and 87.5 ke. The host position is Taijiao Wood. Guest... then arises. Body... grains should be dark/black. Days have remainder. The people suffer from Qi stagnation. Should eat millet (Shu). Although... Shao Zheng Fire. Heart heat and confusion. Ji grain. Although... Gong Earth. Then matures. Sweet and緩 (relaxing) it. Year grain...
Fifth Qi: From the day of Qiu Fen (Autumn Equinox)... movement. Wood generates Fire, Fire overcomes... use sweet to drain it. Use sour to gather it... until Xu hour on the day of Da Han. Condensing the Great Void, dust hazing the suburbs, the people feel miserable and cold. Cold wind arrives; those who are contrary perish in gestation. One should treat the guest of Taiyin, tonify with sweet, drain with bitter, relax with sweet. Year grain should be... Intercalary grain should be hemp. Although there is Damp pathogen, it cannot cause harm; this is the transformation of the Six Qi. At the intersection of annual Qi, if Heavenly Qi overcomes, there is the recurrence of Taiyin; if Earthly Qi overcomes, there is the recurrence of Jueyin. Treat according to the methods for their recurrences. What is called Damp, treat with Dryness; what is Warm, treat with Coolth; thus its Qi becomes balanced.
