[Chills Malaria (with Discussion)]
The symptoms of Chills Malaria are as described in the *Neijing* (*Inner Canon*): chills precede fever, and the illness occurs at regular intervals. This is likely caused by contracting summerheat with sweating, leading to the opening of the Couli (skin pores), followed by an invasion of summer cold.
Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) [from *Zhizhi Fang*]: Treats malaria induced by cold contraction. Use this formula to dissipate the pathogen at the initial stage.
Ingredients: Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, stir-fried, 3 liang), Beigeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 liang), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots removed), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, processed), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, each 6 qian), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed, each 4 liang). The above ingredients are crushed into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1 zhan of water and 5 slices of fresh ginger, decoct until 0.7 zhan remains, remove the dregs, and take warm.
Hengshan Wan (Dichroa Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats Chills Malaria characterized by Yang deficiency and Yin excess, internal and external coldness, and trembling of the four limbs.
