Ji Feng (Acute Wind-Stroke) invading the human body is caused by toxic and severe pathogenic qi, which is not the normal state of the interaction between Heaven and Earth's Yin and Yang. Its symptoms include tightness and tension of the sinews and vessels, stiffness and rigidity of the back and body, dark complexion, dry nose, and throat obstruction.
Niuhuang Wan (Coral-bezoar Pill): Treats acute symptoms of wind-stroke.
Ingredients: Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, ground, 0.5 liang), Pengsha (Borax, ground), Zhusha (Cinnabaris, ground), Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum), Nifen (Calomelas, ground), Liuhuang (Sulfur, melted in an iron pot and mixed with Hydrargyrum until extremely uniform), Xionghuang (Realgar), Baifuzi (Rhizoma Typhonii, processed), Tianma (Rhizoma Gastrodiae), Xixin (Herba Asari, remove seedlings and leaves), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, processed), Huhuanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, remove seedlings), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae, remove coarse bark, slice, and roast), Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, remove forks), Ziwan (Herba Asteris), Ganxie (Scorpio, stir-fried with wine), Roudoukou (Nux Moschata, remove shell), Zhi Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted five times), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, processed to crack, remove skin and umbilicus), Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried), Benluo (Radium Ligustici Chuanxiong, remove seedlings), Tinglizi (Semen Lepidii et Descurainiae, 0.5 liang), Wushe (Zaocys, soaked in wine, remove skin and bones, roasted, 0.5 liang). Except for the herbs requiring grinding, all others are crushed and sifted into powder. Take flesh of Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), mix with refined honey, and pound together three thousand times. Form pills the size of hemp seeds. Each day on an empty stomach, take two pills with warm wine; if drinking wine is inconvenient, dissolve three pills in hot Doulinjiu (soybean-leavened wine). After a while, administer hot Shengjiangjiu Zhou (Ginger-wine porridge) to assist the medicinal effect. Cover with clothing to induce sweating, but do not allow excessive sweating. All preparations should be made on the Day of La (the twelfth lunar month), or on days of Wangxiang (prosperous phases) in the four seasons, as well as on Tiande (Heavenly Virtue) and Yuede (Monthly Virtue) days. During preparation, avoid exposure to dogs. Before placing herbs in the mortar, inhale the Qi of the prosperous phase, then swallow three mouthfuls of Yang Qi into the mortar. If treating conditions involving Tang Zheng (decoction syndromes), use decoctions for administration. For pediatric Jing Feng (Convulsive Disorder), take one pill the size of a millet grain, administered with Jingjie Bohe Tang (Schizonepeta and Mint Decoction). For adult Tan Huan Feng (Paralytic Wind), take one dose at each bedtime.
