The so-called "Shi Qi Re Du" (Seasonal Epidemic Heat Toxin) refers to pathogenic heat accumulating in the Zang-Fu organs. This condition leads to a separation of Yin and Yang energies, with pathogenic heat lodging in the collaterals of the Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (Foot-Shaoyin). The toxic vapors ascend and attack the throat, causing swelling, pain, or the formation of ulcers.
