[Changshan Pill Formula]
Xiang (Note: Original text lacks specific herb name, retains "Xiang"), 3 liang; Changshan (Dichroa Radix), 3 liang; Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Semen, peeled and tipped, using double kernels for decoction, 3 liang); Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 1 liang, heart and skin removed, roasted). The above herbs are crushed and sifted. Mixed with honey to form pills.
Within three days of initially contracting the seasonal qi pathogen, take orally at dawn. Each dose is one pill, sized like a Sophora japonica seed. After walking for a distance equivalent to ten li, the patient may experience vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating. If none of these occur, administer another pill. If after walking five li there is still no vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating, give hot drink to assist the medicinal action. Dosage for the elderly and children should be reduced according to their condition. This formula treats Huang disease (jaundice/phlegm-stasis), Tanpi (phlegm-rack), Shiqi Shanghan (seasonal qi cold damage), Nue (malaria), and pediatric Jingre yu fa xian (pediatric convulsive fever impending epilepsy). It is effective in all cases. It is particularly miraculous for treating Zhangqi (miasma/pestilence). A person suffering from Chi Bai Li (dysentery with red and white discharge) was also cured by taking it. For residual heat at the beginning of spring, follow the above method to induce vomiting and diarrhea; one need not worry about heat diseases that year. Avoid eating Amaranthus, reed shoots, wild boar meat, raw green onions, and raw vegetables.
[Another Formula] (From *Zhouhou Fang*) Treats Shiqi (seasonal qi disease), where the condition is critical, even requiring breaking open the coffin for rescue.
Use 100 large coins, 1 dou of water, boil to obtain 8 sheng. Add Shexiang Dangmenzi (Moschus) and Yuzili (Prunus mume seed) two ingredients. Administer slowly until finished. The patient will sweat or vomit.
[Hejie San] (From *Chuanxin Shi Yong Fang*) Treats contraction of Wind, Zhongshu (summerheat), and Cold. The exterior and interior patterns are undifferentiated, presenting with Tou tong (headache), E xin (nausea), Fa re (fever), Fan teng (restless pain). Inability to eat or drink. Regular use strengthens Zhengqi (healthy qi), eliminates Cold evil, and wards off Plague. Suitable for both old and young.
Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, washed, 4 liang); Nongpou (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed, 4 liang); Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, calyx removed, 4 liang); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 4 liang); Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, fried, 4 liang); Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, fried, 4 liang); Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 4 liang); Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, albedo removed, fried, 4 liang); Chi Fuling (Poria Cocos with Red Host, 4 liang); Huoxiang Ye (Agastaches Folium, 2 liang); Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, sprouts removed, 2 liang); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed, 2 liang); Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 2 liang); Banxia Qu (Pinelliae Fermentatum, 2 liang); Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, washed and calyx removed, 1 liang). The above are made into coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, 3 slices of ginger, 1 jujube. Decoct to 0.7 portion, strain. Take warm at any time.
[Taoye Tang] (From *Bencao*) Method for fumigation to ward off plague.
Use 1 shi of water, boil Taoye (Persicae Folium) to obtain 7 dou. Spread the thick liquid on mats. Sit surrounded by them, cover with clothes and blankets. Place the Taoye Tang under the bed/mattress. Fumigate oneself with the heat. After a short while, sweat should appear. Once sweating is complete, remove the decoction. Rest and apply powder. Roasting until scorched leads to recovery. This is Chen Linqiu's steaming method. The classic states: Continuous sweating without perspiration leads to death. One can steam as in the treatment of Wind-stroke. Asked Zhang Miao. Zhang Miao once suffered from extreme fatigue with sweating, lying on a bamboo mat feeling cold, only suffering from cold and exhaustion. Over four to eight days, sweating did not occur. He burned the ground and arranged leaves for steaming, resulting in profuse sweating. Applying powder in the bedding until very dry led to recovery. Later used this method to induce sweating. Steaming involves burning the ground for a long time, sweeping away the fire ash, and sprinkling water. Use Can sha (Bombyx Batryticatus), or Taoye, Baiye (Cupressi Cacumen), bran, and wheat chaff, whichever is easy to obtain. Cow or horse manure can also be used, though it smells bad. Collect Taoye when they are about to fall, dry them. Place these materials on the ground, thickness of 2-3 cun, sit on a mat, cover warmly. Use this method to induce sweating. If too hot, adjust carefully. For excessive heat, use double mats. When sweating covers the whole body, stop, and apply wet powder. Do not exceed this method.
[Treating Shiqi Zhangyi]
Use Baimu Zhi (Cupressi Ramulus). Select branches from trees southwest of the She (Earth God shrine), specifically southeast branches. Quantity unrestricted. Dry and pulverize. Mix with water and take 1 qian. Three to four times a day. Removes heat and restlessness in the heart and abdomen. Treats Tianxing Wenzhang (epidemic warm miasma).
[Chen Family White Medicine]
Grind Chen Family White Medicine with water and take orally.
