When contracting epidemic qi, heat-toxin attacks the Heart. This causes mental restlessness and confusion. Yang Qi becomes excessively flourishing, leading to delirious speech and red eyes. The patient experiences mental agitation, inability to sleep or lie down comfortably, spiritual fright and palpitations, and abnormal speech. If the toxic vapors are not eliminated, Yang heat knots and dries internally. The pulse is surging (Hong) and rapid (Shu). These are the signs of this condition.
