When contracting seasonal pathogenic factors, the three Yang meridians are affected. The pathogen remains at the exterior level. The toxic qi attacks and pours into the exterior, following the Fengfu (GV16) acupoint to enter the brain. Consequently, it causes high fever and severe headache.
There is stagnation in the chest and diaphragm. If the pulse is floating and rapid, sweating or emesis methods can be used for treatment, leading to recovery.
Formulas
Ge Gen San (Cinnamon Twig Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating headaches and high fever caused by seasonal pathogens.
Puerariae Radix (one liang), Gypsum Fibrosum (two liang), Gardeniae Fructus (one liang), Bupleuri Radix (one liang, remove seedlings), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (one liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (roasted until slightly red, cut into small pieces, five qian).
Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Take five qian per dose. Add one large bowl of water and fourteen leaves of Bambusa Densa Folia (Dan Zhu Ye), decoct until only two-fifths of the liquid remains. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time. In *Shengji Zonglu*, use one slice of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Jiang) and one large Jujubae Fructus (Da Zao) for decoction; if Bambusa Densa Folia is unavailable, it may be omitted.
Lin Ding Tang (Pour-over Head Soup, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating unbearable headaches caused by seasonal pathogens.
Gypsum Fibrosum (ten liang, crushed), Gardeniae Fructus (three liang), Phyllostachys Viridis Caulis (Zhu Ye, one handful), Chrysanthemi Flos (three liang), Sojae Semen Preparatum (Chi Xin, three he), Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Shallot White, fourteen stems, cut).
Add six bowls of water to the above ingredients, boil until three bowls remain. Strain the dregs. Pour into a bottle with a spout. While still slightly hot, pour over the top of the head.

Gypsum Fibrosum (two liang), Circaeae Herba (Qi Ni), Akebiae Caulis (Mu Tong, one liang, cut), Rhinocerotis Cornu (Xi Jiao Xie), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (roasted until slightly red, cut, half liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Take five qian per dose. Add one large bowl of water and twenty-one to twenty-one leaves of Phyllostachys Viridis Caulis (Zhu Ye), decoct until only two-fifths of the liquid remains. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time.
Qian Hu San (Peucedani Radix Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating high fever, headache, vomiting, and inability to eat caused by seasonal pathogens.
Peucedani Radix (Qian Hu, one liang, remove root crown), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhi Mu, one liang), Rhinocerotis Cornu (Xi Jiao Xie, one liang), Puerariae Radix (Ge Gen, one liang, cut), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chi Shao Yao, one liang), Gypsum Fibrosum (two liang).

Take five liang of Gypsum Fibrosum (Shi Gao), grind extremely fine. Take two qian per dose, mixed with aged tea, regardless of time.
Shen Su Tang (Ginseng and Perilla Decoction, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating cold-induced fever and headache. It is also suitable for cases complicated by phlegm-fluid retention and stomach heat.
If it is a cold with fever, follow the method of taking Yang Wei Tang (Stomach-Nourishing Decoction), taking several doses continuously until slight sweating occurs, indicating recovery. If residual heat remains, continue taking it slowly until it subsides naturally. For fever caused by phlegm-fluids, take frequently over consecutive days until the fever breaks; do not stop prematurely. It also treats epigastric fullness and diaphragmatic obstruction, retching, nausea, promotes appetite, and treats all types of fever, heavy coughing, and thick sticky sputum. This formula releases muscle-layer heat, relieves chest fullness, and benefits the diaphragm. It is also suitable for impending consumptive diseases, tidal fevers, children, and unmarried women. It additionally treats malaria.
Aucklandiae Radix (Mu Xiang, five qian), Perillae Folium (Zi Su Ye, three fen), dried Puerariae Radix (Gan Ge, three fen, washed), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Ban Xia, washed seven times, processed with ginger, fried, three fen), Peucedani Radix (Qian Hu, three fen, remove seedlings), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao, three fen, roasted), Ginseng Radix (Ren Shen, three fen), Poria (Fu Ling, three fen, remove skin), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhi Ke, five qian, remove pith, stir-fried with bran), Platycodonis Radix (Jie Geng, three qian, remove root crown), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chen Pi, five qian, remove white pith).

Decoct until two-thirds of the liquid remains. Strain the dregs. Take when slightly warm, regardless of time. Another variation: for those with excess Qi, omit Aucklandiae Radix (Mu Xiang), using only ten ingredients.
Shen Su Bai Du San (Ginseng and Perilla Detoxifying Powder, also known as Bai Du San, from *Shenghui Fang*), treating headaches and neck stiffness, high fever with aversion to cold, body aches, cold-stagnation cough, nasal congestion with heavy voice, wind-phlegm headaches, retching, chills, and fever caused by Cold Damage or seasonal pathogens.

Decoct until seven-tenths of the liquid remains. Strain the dregs. Take regardless of time. If cold predominates, take hot; if heat predominates, take warm. Use small amounts of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens and Menthae Haplocalycis Herba. Another variation omits Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Du Huo). For dampness injury, add Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Bai Zhu). For severe redness and heat in Hong Kong Foot (Zu Jing Hong Re), chills and fever like malaria, spontaneous sweating with aversion to wind, or no sweating with aversion to cold, add Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma (Da Huang) and Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cang Zhu). For red skin rashes and itching, add Bombyx Batryticatus (Chan Tui). For dysentery with pure blood discharge, in patients with strong stomach and good appetite, give several doses. This formula is from *He Ji Ju Fang* (Prescriptions of the Bureau of Taiyi), taken as powder, three qian-bi per dose. In *San Yin Fang*, it is a powder, four qian-bi per dose. Modern practitioners sometimes use four qian. This formula is cooling in nature. Do not use for spontaneous diarrhea, or for those who have undergone sweating/purging with deficient pulses and cold hands/feet. Do not use for pain triggered by Qi touching the heart/hypochondrium, or for fever with back chills.
