The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: The Way of the Sages is to relieve all beings with compassion. One should extensively seek various medicines to guard against unforeseen emergencies. In sudden crises, remedies can be obtained at hand. Thus, there are "Myriad Disease Prescriptions."

**Qipo Wanbing Pill** (from *Qianjin Fang*) treats seven types of *pi* masses (abdominal lumps), five types of epilepsy (*dian*), ten types of *zhuwu* (infectious or lingering diseases), seven types of *feishi* (flying corpses/sudden severe illnesses), twelve types of *gu* poison (poisoning from magical or toxic substances), five types of *hunmo* (visual obscurations or mental confusion), as well as ascending Qi with cough, abdominal distension and fullness extending to the chest for twenty years without healing, five types of dysentery with red and white discharge, bone marrow lesions leading to chronic stubborn conditions, bodily Qi edema, discomfort after drinking water, cold invading the uterus causing impurity or blockage leading to infertility, pediatric red and white dysentery, fox odor (body malodor), and deafness.
This prescription uses Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, Ox Gallstone) as the principal ingredient, hence also named Niuhuang Wan; because Qipo was a skilled physician, it is named Qipo Wanbing Pill.
Herbs: Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis), Shexiang (Moschus, Musk), Xijiao (Rhino Horn - *Note: Use substitutes in modern practice*), Fuling (Poria), Sangbaipi (Morus Alba Root Bark), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, Dried Ginger), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamon Twig), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, White Peony Root), Gansui (Kansui Root), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Rhubarb), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) — each one fen; Baimi (White Honey).
Usage: Make pills the size of wutong tree seeds.
For acute illness, take one pill, grind with vinegar and take.
For other causes, take with rice soup.
For lactation issues, take with milk.
For hematemesis (vomiting blood), take with water.
Take the juice, one pill, size of a mung bean.
When healed, continue taking until recovery.
One method involves extracting pus/blood, another involves applying ointment to ulcer holes.
For insect bites, apply externally.
If it induces vomiting or diarrhea, toxins are expelled. For pediatric *keyu* (childhood fright/shock), take two pills the size of a rice grain, mix with milk, apply to nipple, let infant suckle. For pediatric convulsions/epilepsy, take two pills the size of a rice grain, apply to nipple, let infant suckle. Dosage varies by child's age. For pediatric indigestion with abdominal distension, take two pills the size of a rice grain, apply to nipple, let infant suckle. If not healed, take again. Another version excludes Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Scutellaria Root), Sangbaipi (Morus Alba Root Bark), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, Balloon Flower Root), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, Divaricate Saposhnikovia Root).

**Daliqi Pill** (from *Qianjin Fang*) treats myriad diseases.
Herbs: Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, Achyranthes Root), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice Root), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, Milkwort Root), Changshan ( Dichroae Radix, Dichroot Root), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, Sophora Root), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, Salvia Root), Shashen (Glehniae Radix, Glehnia Root), Longdan (Gentianae Radix, Gentian Root), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae, Fossil Bone), Mumeng (Ostreae Concha, Oyster Shell - *Note: Mumeng usually refers to Ostreae Concha or similar shell*), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, Pinellia Tuber), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, Apricot Seed) — above 27 herbs, sifted fine.
Usage: Take appropriate amount.

**Shenzhen Method** (from *Xianyao Fang*) Formerly, there was an old man at the foot of Mount Tai, whose name was lost. When Emperor Wu of Han toured east, he saw the old man hoeing on the road, with white light emanating from his back. The old man had white hair and missing teeth. A Daoist priest taught him a recipe using substances corresponding to the 24 Solar Terms. He walked a hundred li, claiming to be 180 years old. Relying on the power of the divine pillow, he did not age. Emperor Wu inspected the pillow: length 1 chi 2 cun, height 4 cun, hollow in the middle, capacity 1 dou 2 sheng, openable and closable. Two rows of 49 holes were drilled on the lid.
Herbs: Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Dahurian Angelica Root), Xinyi (Magnoliae Flos, Magnolia Bud), Duheng (Adenophorae Radix, Ladybell Root), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Large-headed Atractylodes Rhizome), Bencao (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Lovage Rhizome - *Note: Text says 'Ben', likely Ligusticum*), Mulan (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, Magnolia Bark), Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, Sichuan Pepper), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) — four flavors (text implies multiple ingredients listed previously or specific selection), each one liang, all chopped, filled with medicinal substances into the pillow. After 100 days, the face becomes radiant. Within one year, all internal diseases and wind disorders heal completely, and the body emits fragrance. Within four years, white hair turns black, fallen teeth regrow, eyes and ears become clear. This is a secret divine formula, not transmitted to just anyone. The "Ben" here refers to the mother root of Chuanxiong. Emperor Wu asked Dongfang Shuo, who replied: Previously, Nü Lian transmitted this formula to Yuqing, Yuqing to Guangchengzi, and Guangchengzi to the Yellow Emperor. Recently, Chunyu Gong, a Daoist from Gucheng, slept on it and remained over 100 years old with white hair. Diseases arise from Yang meridians. Now, sleeping on a medicinal pillow prevents wind pathogens from invading. Although wrapped in cloth bags, one should re-wrap tightly before sleep and remove only when lying down. The emperor ordered gifts of silk to the old man.

**Chubi Yijin** (Blowing Nose Lifts Gold) treats all miscellaneous syndromes with great efficacy.
Herbs: Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, Gastrodia Tuber), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, Mint), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica, Schizonepeta Spike), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Ruxiang (Olibanum, Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrha, Myrrh), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, Indigo), Huashi (Talcum, Talc), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix).
Usage: Grind into fine powder.

**Hanshui Shi San** (Cold Water Stone Powder) treats Hongjiao (gouty arthritis) toxin spreading internally and externally, high fever unrelieved, mouth ulcers, manic running with toxic severity, and resolves poisoning from various hot medicines, pathogenic heat, sudden jaundice, etc. It resolves gu poison, ghost/spirit wild pathogenic heat. It also treats pediatric convulsions and febrile diseases.
Herbs: Hanshui Shi (Calcitrum, Calcite), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, Gypsum), Cishi (Magnetitum, Magnetite), Huashi (Talcum) — above four herbs, each three jin, pounded into fine powder, boiled in one dan of water until reduced to four sheng four dou, strain, then add subsequent herbs; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, eight liang, boiled); Shizhongru (Stalactitum, Stalactite) — good quality two liang, pour in when condensing, mix evenly.

**Xianren Lian Jiangxue** (Immortal Refining Crimson Snow) treats accumulation of heat qi in all diseases, retching/coughing up pus and blood, Dan-Shi toxicity eruption, epidemic seasonal pathogens, febrile diseases, various jaundice, etc.
Symptoms: Pain, red and white dysentery, drunken fatigue, chronic dysentery not healing.
Herbs: Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, Mirabilite), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, Black Cohosh Root), Daqing (Isidis Folium, Isatis Leaf), Sangbaipi (Morus Albae Cortex, Mulberry Root Bark), Huaihua (Sophorae Flos, Sophora Flower) — each two liang; Xijiao (Rhino Horn - *substitute*), Lingyangjiao (Saiga Tataricae Cornu, Saiga Horn) — each one liang; Sha (Borax, Borax) — half liang, ground.
Usage: Place in basin.

**Xiaofang** (Effective Prescription) treats epidemic poisons, e-he (malignant nodules), golden wounds (traumatic injuries), and hundred diseases.
Herbs: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Tianxiong (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Preparata, Prepared Kusnezoff Monkshood Root), Wutou (Aconiti Radix, Aconite Root) — each three liang; Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, Asarum Root), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Zhusha (Cinnabar, Cinnabaris) — each two liang; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, Prepared Side-root of Aconite), Xionghuang (Realgar, Realgar), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Bai (Text incomplete, likely Baizhi or similar), Wine two sheng.
Usage: Add Zhusha powder, stir to mix, seal tightly. Recover from illness. Limb wind-bi (painful obstruction) can also use this.

**Taifu Baigao** (Grand Tutor White Ointment) treats hundred diseases. Cold damage, throat obstruction, neck stiffness and pain, lower back and spine pain along with both legs, wind-bi damp swelling, difficult flexion and extension.
Symptoms: Neck swelling like a saddle, postpartum residual diseases in women.
Herbs: Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, Croton Seed), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen), Li Gu (Fox Bone), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) — each one liang; Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Rou Si Jin (Meat Four Jin - *likely refers to animal fat base*).
Usage: Simmer gently. Apply with iron slurry water for toothache, falling eyebrows/eyelashes.

**Fenshuang Wan** (Powder Frost Pill) This is a secret immortal prescription. Treats all disease syndromes.
Herbs: Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos, Clove), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, Aucklandia Root), Fenshuang (Sublimated Arsenic Trioxide - *Highly Toxic, use with extreme caution*), Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces, Dung Beetle Excrement), Zhusha (Cinnabar) — each two qian; Sha (Borax), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Shexiang (Moschus), Xin (Arsenic Realgar/Orpiment mixture - *wrapped in wet paper, roasted until smoke stops*).
Usage: Take two pills each time, with... retching/fullness, spleen cold malaria, bloody dysentery, red and white dysentery, taken with warm wine.

**awei Yaojian** (Asafoetida Decoction) Treats hundred diseases.
Herbs: Awei (Asafoetida Resin), Doukou Ren (Cardamomi Fructus, Cardamom Seed), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Fresh Ginger), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) — each eight fen; Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, Turtle Shell) — twelve fen, fried.
Usage: Grind into powder. Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) etc.

**Wanbing Wuyou San** (Myriad Diseases No Worries Powder) Treats wind disorders, sores, swellings, scabies, tinea. Or cold accumulation in zang-fu organs, Qi stagnation and knotting, wind-lao (chronic deficiency with heat), bladder chronic cold, zang-fu deficiency decline, sallow complexion, epidemic pestilence, salivation, regardless of season.
Symptoms: Swelling and fullness, difficult movement, loss of appetite, chronic diarrhea/dysentery resembling intermittent dysentery, stopping occasionally. One dose expels cold pus.
Efficacy: Eliminates cold, heat, old, young, weak patients. Other medicines fail. This medicine... Pregnant women with long-term blood deficiency and Qi weakness, sallow and powerless, can also take according to the prescription. Promotes Qi and Blood circulation, treats diseases together. Its merits cannot be fully recorded. Women who are pregnant or during dark/cloudy weather should not take it. When heaven and earth are clear, those healed can take it again for better results.
Herbs: Huang (Likely Huangqi or Huanglian, text unclear), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, Akebia Stem), Sangbaipi (Morus Albae Cortex), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Tangerine Peel) — each one liang; Hujiao (Piperis Longi Fructus, Long Pepper), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) — each half liang; Bai Qianni (Phytolaccae Radix, Phytolacca Root, stir-fried four liang, separate head...). After a short while, morning can have 3-5 loose stools, no harm. After illness subsides, replenish with white porridge to recover. Another version uses Hei Qianni (Black Phytolacca Root) lightly stir-fried into powder, kept separately. Before... Li Lu Geng Yun Guan Wang Zhi. Two years ago, I contracted a strange lung disease. During the day, right nostril had turbid discharge all day. At night, clear discharge flowed like water endlessly. It was very painful. Doctors only used lung-treating medicines, focusing on Xinti (Magnolia Bud). Although slightly improved over years, it never fully disappeared. Later, staying at relative Wang Fayun's house, suffered from swollen lips higher than nose, unable to eat, teeth completely swollen. Family had a medicine containing some Hei Qianni. Just finished taking it, passed one or two stools, swelling receded. Initially suspected Harm from Qianni. Since swelling was severe, reluctantly took one dose, passed two stools, swelling vanished immediately. Discharge stopped. One medicine attacked two diseases, amazing! Amazing!

**Miaoxiang Wan** (Wonderful Fragrance Pill) Treats all long-standing deep accumulations, cold damage chest binding, Taiyang jue syndrome, dry depression attacking without opening. All can take. Also called Taisheng Pill.
Herbs: Badou (Crotonis Fructus, peeled but oil retained), Nifen (Calomel - *Mercurous Chloride*), Sha (Borax), Zhusha (Cinnabar), Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum, Mercury) — each one qian tin-bound sand; Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, Borneol), Shexiang (Moschus), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) — each small amount... Cold water... Gouqi Jiu (Goji Wine) Treats five internal pathogenic qi, thirst/xiao-ke, wind-damp descending to brain, hypochondriac Qi headache, strengthens sinews and bones, strengthens yin, promotes urination and bowel movements, fills bone marrow, grows muscle... Water, breaks accumulation/stasis/pus... Qi edema bi, all main indications.
Herbs: Nuomi (Glutinous Rice, one dan Maiqu/Yeast... this medicine rice can also use wheat add five sheng... only best quality); Gouqigen (Lycii Cortex, Goji Root Bark, twenty jin, red skin half inch chopped, soaked in one dan water overnight, scrape skin three days, boil to get five dou juice); Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, twenty jin, wash dirt, cut fine... boil... take... brew... two... two... Duoming San (Life-Taking Powder) Treats men and women, heart internal accumulated heat, stagnant phlegm, intestinal filth and various toxins, turning into hundred diseases, alcohol/grain food accumulation, pi mass blocks, Xiao Chang Shan (Intestinal Hernia) Wind, or fright/fear... grow muscle, heart irritability... long term becomes blood pi/blood jia (masses)... sleep, wait for medicine to act in first or second watch, slight diarrhea... Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, Agarwood), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, Bitter Orange), decoct Danggui Tang to mix and take... two flavors, measure disease deficiency/excess.
Herbs: Jinwen Dahuang (Jinwen Rhubarm, four liang, peel stir-fry retain nature), Mai (Wheat, one liang half stir-fry), Binglang (Arecae Semen, Betel Nut, seven qian half), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus, Fennel Fruit), Qumai (Dianthi Herba, Dianthus Herb), Dixu (Persicariae Herba, Knotweed Herb) — each... Xianren Yuhu Wan (Immortal Jade Pot Pill) (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Herbs: Xionghuang (Realgar), Lilu (Veratrum Viride Rhizoma, Green Veratrum Root), Dansha (Cinnabar), Fanshi (Alumen, Alum), Badou (Crotonis Fructus) — above each two liang; Bajiao (Illicium Star Anise), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) — equal parts. First pound Badou three thousand times. Then... Dansha three... Honey, fear... vessel. Warm porridge drink before taking to dissolve. Jiaotong Ge (Communication Song) Mix to... nostrils. Want to drill ribs... take like hemp seed... three doses daily... reverse... bright... sudden... cold... erupt... break... if... same... tongue... valley... also... Postpartum residual diseases in women, menstruation irregular, coming and going at random times, take two pills twice daily. Women with bitter stagnant Qi in chest, breathing unfavorable, lower abdomen hard and urgent, periumbilical colic, take paste pill size of hemp seed, gradually increase to mung bean size. Pediatric hundred diseases, convulsions, blockages, and heat, infants half-year-old, take one pill size of millet grain, place on nipple to drink. Over one year old, one pill size of hemp seed, mix and take.
Above fine powder, roll in large mortar for two days, make extremely uniform, mix with two liang glutinous rice flour, add water to cook into paste, mix with Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) glue and medicine, pound over two thousand times... materials... degrees. Also make... combine... timing... abdomen... son... cut ten thousand... to mourning... mix with wax one pill, size of bullet, put in sharp pouch, tie on shoulder, male left female right, mountain spirits and ghosts all fear it.

**Zhusha Hediding Dan** (Cinnabar Crane Top Pill) Treats various diseases.
Herbs: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, ginger-processed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, peeled tip), Shandou (Viciniae Semen, peeled oil each forty-nine), Su Zhengbing (Steamed Cake, four liang peeled), Gan Yanzhi (Dry Carmine) — two qian... syndrome. Heart dysentery... taken with soup. Lao Qi (Chronic Qi deficiency)... taken with rice soup. Xiao Chang Qi (Intestinal Qi pain)... taken with Huixiang (Fennel). Hematemesis... taken with Dingxiang (Clove) soup. Yin Du Shanghan (Yin Toxin Cold Damage)... taken with Zaojia Zi (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina, Chinese Honeylocust Thorn) soup.
