夫热病发汗吐下之后。表里俱虚。毒瓦斯未除。伏热在脏。热毒乘虚。攻于心脾。上焦烦
壅。头痛咽干。故口舌生疮也。
方
犀角散（出圣惠方）治热病口疮。心神烦躁。大小便壅滞。宜服。
犀角屑 甘草（炙微赤锉各半两） 黄连（去须） 川大黄（锉碎微炒） 黄芩 川朴
硝（各
一两） 川升麻（七分） 麦门冬（一两半去心焙） 上为粗散。每服三钱。以水一中盏。
煎至
六分。去滓温服。如人行十余里再服。以利为度。

After the treatment of heat diseases with sweating, vomiting, or purging methods, both the exterior and interior aspects become deficient. The pathogenic toxins have not been eliminated, and latent heat remains hidden within the zang-fu organs. The heat-toxin takes advantage of this deficiency to attack the Heart and Spleen, causing stagnation and oppression in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), resulting in headache, dry throat, and consequently, sores on the mouth and tongue.
Formulas
Xijiao San (Rhino Horn Powder) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats oral ulcers caused by heat diseases. Symptoms include mental restlessness and agitation, and obstruction/stagnation of urination and defecation. Suitable for administration.
Ingredients: Rhinoceros Horn fragments (Xijiao), Licorice Root (Gancao, roasted until slightly red and chopped, each 0.5 liang), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, remove roots), Rhubarb (Chuan Dahuang, chopped and lightly stir-fried), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), Mirabilite (Chuan Puxiao, each 1 liang), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma, 0.7 fen), Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong, 1.5 liang, heart removed and baked).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add one zhongzhan of water, decoct until six parts remain, filter out the dregs, and take warm. If taken after walking for about ten li, repeat until bowel movement is unobstructed.
Chuan Shengma San (Cimicifuga Rhizome Powder) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats oral ulcers caused by heat diseases. Symptoms include high fever, headache, mental restlessness, and agitation. Suitable for administration.
Ingredients: Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma), Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, remove roots), Isatis Leaf (Daqing), Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhimu), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin, each 1 liang), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu, 1.5 liang, remove seedlings), Licorice Root (Gancao, roasted until slightly red and chopped), Cortex Lycii (Dugupi, each 3 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add one zhongzhan of water, add thirty-plus slices of light bamboo leaves, decoct until six parts remain, filter out the dregs, and take warm at any time.
Daqing San (Isatis Leaf Powder) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats heat diseases. Symptoms include heat stagnation in the Heart and oral ulcers. Suitable for administration.
Ingredients: Isatis Leaf (Daqing), Codonopsis Root (Shashen, remove rhizome head), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma), Rhubarb (Chuan Dahuang, chopped and lightly stir-fried, each 1 fen), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), Aurantium Fructus (Zhike, bran-roasted until slightly yellow, each 0.5 liang), Rehmannia Root (Sheng Gan Dihuang, 1 liang), Mirabilite (Chuan Puxiao, 3 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add one zhongzhan of water, decoct until six parts remain, filter out the dregs, and take warm at any time.
Xijiao Jian (Rhino Horn Decoction) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats heat diseases. Symptoms include redness and swelling of the throat, oral ulcers, and inability to eat. Suitable for administration.
Ingredients: Rhinoceros Horn fragments (Xijiao), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma), Rhubarb (Chuan Dahuang, chopped and lightly stir-fried), Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome (Huangyaozi), Niter (Mayaxiao), Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, chopped, each 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a powder. Add four dalians of water, decoct until one dalian remains, filter out the dregs, add three he of honey, mix well, boil for one or two more boils, let cool to warm, and slowly hold in the mouth to swallow.
Longdan Jian (Gentian Decoction) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats heat diseases. Oral ulcers that come and go, with unbearable pain. Suitable for external application.
Ingredients: Gentian Root (Longdancao, remove rhizome head), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, remove roots), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma), Catalpa Bark (Huai Baipi, chopped), Isatis Leaf (Daqing, each 1 liang), Bamboo Leaves (Zhuye), Rosa Rugosa Root (Qiangweigen, chopped, each 3 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop the above ingredients, add five dalians of water, decoct until one dalian remains, filter out the dregs, add three he of honey, and simmer over low fire to form a paste. Apply to the sores. Spit out saliva if produced.
Shigao Jian (Gypsum Decoction) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats oral ulcers caused by heat diseases. Clears the Heart and removes heat, eliminates ringing in the throat. Suitable for administration.
Ingredients: Gypsum (Shigao, 0.5 jin, finely ground), Honey (Mi), Rehmannia Juice (Dihuang Zhi, each one zhongzhan).
Preparation and Administration: Add three dalians of water, first decoct the gypsum to obtain one dalian of liquid, then add honey and Rehmannia juice, decoct again to obtain one dalian, filter out the dregs. Take one spoonful per dose, hold in the mouth and swallow.
Formula for treating persistent oral ulcers caused by heat diseases that do not heal for a long time.
Ingredients: Asparagus Tuber (Tianmendong, 1.5 liang, heart removed and baked), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Shengma), Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen, each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of a bullet. Wrap one pill thinly in new cotton cloth per dose, hold in the mouth, and swallow with saliva.
Another Formula [From *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma), Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome (Huangyaozi, each 1 liang), Rhubarb (Chuan Dahuang, 1.5 liang, chopped and lightly stir-fried), Lead Monoxide (Huangdan, 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of a bullet. Wrap one pill thinly in new cotton cloth per dose, hold in the mouth, and swallow with saliva.
Treating heat diseases, red and swollen oral ulcers with unbearable pain. [From *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, 1 liang, powdered), Calomelas (Nifen, 1 qian), Niter (Mayaxiao, 1 liang, powdered).
Preparation and Administration: Mix the above ingredients evenly. Take a small amount per dose and apply to the sore. Spit out saliva. Use two to three times a day.
Formula for treating heat diseases, red and swollen oral ulcers with unbearable pain. [From *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Rosa Rugosa Root (Qiangweigen, 2 liang, chopped), Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, 1.5 liang, chopped), Niter (Mayaxiao, 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Add two and a half dalians of water to the above ingredients, decoct until one and a half dalians remain, filter out the dregs. Hold warm in the mouth and spit out when cool.
Formula for treating heat disease oral ulcers without drinking water. [From *Shenghui Fang*]
Ingredients: Achyranthes Root (Niuxi, remove seedlings), Kochia Seedling (Jiaohao, each 1 liang), Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, 0.5 liang, chopped).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop the above ingredients, add two dalians of water, decoct to obtain one and a half dalians, filter out the dregs. Hold warm in the mouth and spit out when cool.

Ingredients: Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 1 fen, remove roots), Catalpa Bark (Huai Baipi), Licorice Root (Gancao Gen, each 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop the above ingredients, add one dalian of water, decoct to obtain one and a half dalians, filter out the dregs. Hold warm in the mouth and spit out when cool.
Shidan San (Stone Gall Powder) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats heat diseases, oral and lingual ulcers.
Ingredients: Stone Gall (Shidan, 0.5 liang), Niter (Mayaxiao, 1 liang), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 0.5 liang, remove roots), Borneol (Longnao, 1 qian), Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, chopped), Kochia Seedling (Jiaohao, each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, add Borneol, Stone Gall, Niter, etc., and grind again until fine. Take half a qian per dose, wrap thinly in new cotton cloth, hold in the mouth for a long time, and spit out saliva.
Sumi Jian (Butter and Honey Decoction) [From *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats heat diseases with excessive heat, oral ulcers.
Ingredients: Butter (Su), Honey (Mi, each three he), Isatis Leaf (Daqing, 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: First crush and sieve Isatis Leaf into powder, add to butter and honey, mix evenly, simmer over low fire for three boils, store in a clean container. Hold one tea spoonful in the mouth at any time.
