When a febrile disease has just subsided, the zang-fu organs are still deficient, and qi and blood have not yet recovered. If one overeats, experiences unregulated emotions of joy or anger, takes baths, combs hair, speaks excessively, or engages in excessive mental labor, it will lead to alternating chills and fever, inability to lift the limbs, bitter taste in the mouth, dry tongue, mental restlessness with night sweats, inability to eat, and emaciation of the body. This is caused by too early exertion and failure to regulate and adapt properly, allowing cold and heat pathogens to enter the meridians and transmit to the zang-fu organs, resulting in various changes, thus forming the syndrome of deficiency consumption (Xu Lao).
Prescriptions:
Biejia Yin Zi (Turtle Shell Decoction) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats post-febrile weakness where constitution and qi remain deficient, leading to chills and fever and limb fatigue due to premature exertion. Suitable for taking.
Ingredients: Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, coated with vinegar, roasted until slightly yellow, skirt removed); Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix, roasted until slightly red, sliced, each 0.5 liang); Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, 1 liang, radix removed); Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix, rhizome removed); Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, each 1 fen); Chi Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra? Note: Text says 'Chi', likely Paeoniae Radix Rubra or just Red Peony Root, but context implies standard Chi Shao; however, standard WHO term for Chi Shao is Paeoniae Radix Rubra. Wait, text says 'Chi' alone in some places, here 'Chi' refers to Chi Shao usually, but let's stick to literal if ambiguous. Actually 'Chi' often stands for Chi Shao in abbreviations. Let's use Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chi Shao)). *Correction*: The text lists "Chi" separately in other formulas as "Chi Shao". Here it just says "Chi". I will translate as Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chi Shao, Red Peony Root). Dou Chi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum, 1 he); Xiong Shu Fen (Muis Faeces, 7 pieces, slightly roasted and ground separately). All ingredients are finely sliced and mixed evenly, divided into two doses. For each dose, add 2 large cups of water, 1 fen of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 3 stalks of Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus). Decoct until 1 cup remains, remove dregs, add the ground mouse feces, stir well, and take warm at any time.
Huang Qi San (Astragalus Powder) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats post-febrile weakness leading to consumption, with weak qi and strength, occasional chills or fever resembling malaria, and limb restlessness.
Ingredients: Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, sliced); Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried); Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, each 3 fen); Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma); Sang Gen Bai Pi (Mori Cortex, each 0.5 liang); Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 1 liang, coated with vinegar, roasted until yellow, skirt removed); Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 1 fen, roasted until slightly red, sliced); Dou Chi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum, 1 he). All ingredients are processed into powder. Take 5 qian per dose with 1 large cup of water, 3 stalks of Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), and 0.5 fen of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Decoct until 0.5 portion remains, remove dregs, and take warm at any time.
