In febrile diseases, heat in the stomach disrupts the harmony of grain qi. When new food enters and contends with the pathogenic heat, the stomach qi becomes unbalanced, leading to vomiting and regurgitation. Alternatively, after vomiting or purging, the deficiency of visceral qi can also cause vomiting and regurgitation.

Qi Wu Huanglian Tang (Seven-Ingredient Coptis Decoction, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats summerheat-stricken cold characterized by painful limbs, fever, mental restlessness, vomiting and regurgitation with fullness in the flanks. * Shaoyao (Peony Root)
* Gegen (Kudzu Root, cut into pieces) (each 1 liang)
* Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 liang 6 zhu)
* Xiaomai (Wheat Grain, 2 he)
Coarsely crush the ingredients. Add seven sheng of water. Boil to obtain three sheng. Divide into three cold doses. If unable to take one sheng, take small amounts gradually. Lie down only when the disease condition stabilizes. This medicine primarily clears toxic heat. After taking the decoction, chest heat and throat pain will heal. On the following day, boil another dose and take it according to the method. This decoction is non-toxic; it merely clears heat, directs qi downward, and calms the patient. For children, take one-third of the dose. Add four sheng of water, boil to obtain two sheng, and take small amounts gradually.

*Waitai Yaofang* states: In cases of severe high fever, irritability, vomiting, groaning, confused speech, and insomnia, this formula is appropriate. It is effective when used by others. It directly resolves heat toxicity and removes intense heat, without requiring alcohol administration. One variation adds three Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) per dose, uses 2 qian of Houpo (Magnolia Bark, coarsely crushed), peeled and crushed Fuling (Poria), one and a half cups of water, and three slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Decoct until half a cup remains and take warm. This is named Banxia Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Pinellia and Coptis Decoction for Resolving Toxicity). For those desiring urgent purgation, add one dose of Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) to the base formula. Decoct with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) as before. Stop when bowel movement occurs. Another method grinds the ingredients into a fine powder, forms pills the size of small beans, and takes twenty pills with warm water. This treats accumulated heat, consumptive cough, diarrhea, and dysentery, and is very effective.
