Taiyang Cold Water governs the Heaven (Si Tian), and Taiyin Damp Earth resides in the Earth (Zai Quan). The central movement is Taigong Earth Movement. The year's Earth Qi is excessive, with its transformation operating ahead of time. Taigong (Earth Movement) is superimposed on Taiyin (Qi residing in the Earth).

The Heavenly order is restful and beautiful. Its flavor is Sweet, its musical note is Gong, and its number is Five. In relation to humans, it corresponds to the Spleen organ, governs the mouth, and nourishes the muscles. Pathologically, it leads to Pi syndrome (fullness and obstruction). This is what the annual movement governs.

The Qi of Heaven and Earth: Above, Taiyang manifests; the left intercalary qi is Jueyin Wind Wood, and the right intercalary qi is Yangming Dry Metal. Thus, the heavenly administration spreads, and the Qi is solemn. Below, Taiyin manifests; the left intercalary qi is Shaoyang Ministerial Fire, and the right intercalary qi is Shaoyin Sovereign Fire. Thus, the earthly Qi is tranquil, and its commands are slow. The combined virtue of Water and Earth corresponds above to Chenxing (Mercury) and Zhenxing (Saturn). Cold descends upon the Great Void; its administration is grandly enacted. Yang Qi does not command; moisture lacks the flame of Yang, so Fire erupts awaiting its time. Shaoyang governs centrally, and seasonal rains cease. When rain stops at its extreme, it dissipates and returns to Taiyin. Clouds face the North Pole, and Damp transformation is spread, flowing moisture to all things. Cold spreads above, thunder moves below. The Qi of Cold and Damp holds sway at the intersection of Qi. The people suffer from Cold-Damp diseases, manifesting as muscle flaccidity, foot weakness and inability to move, damp diarrhea, and blood extravasation.

Before the middle of the year, the Heavenly Qi is governed by Taiyang. Taiyang has transformations of Root and Mark. Cold administration is grandly enacted, and Hot Qi responds in due time; the Heavenly Qi achieves balance.

After the middle of the year, the Earthly Qi is governed by Taiyin. The transformation of Taiyin follows its Root. Excessive rain and dampness are the response of Earthly Qi. The number for Cold transformation is Six, and for Warm transformation is Five.

First Qi Period: From Shen hour on the day of Da Han (Major Cold) in the Guiyou year to Wu hour on the day of Chun Fen (Spring Equinox) of this year, totaling sixty days and eighty-seven-and-a-half ke. Last Qi Period: From Zi hour on the day of Xiao Xue (Minor Snow) to Xu hour on the day of Da Han (Major Cold), totaling over sixty days. The Main Position is Taiyu Water. The Ke Qi is Taiyin Earth, with the central Earth Movement visible. The Qi and Movement coincide. The Earthly Qi is correct, and the Damp command is executed. Yin condenses in the Great Void, dust dims the suburbs, and people feel bleak and cold. Cold wind arrives. If one opposes this, conception fails. One should treat the pathogenic influence of Taiyin Ke Qi using Sweet flavor to tonify, Bitter flavor to drain, and Sweet flavor to relax. The grain of the year should be Shu (Yellow Millet), and the intercalary grain should be Hemp. Then Damp will not become pathogenic. This Qi must not be offended by Coolness, because the governing Qi is Cool. Although the annual Qi is peaceful, if pathogenic Qi enters, it affects the Zhongzhi Fa (Law of the Center); as the Classic states: "When it affects the Law of the Center, the disease is rapid and critical."
